  • Mushi-shi - Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural... This story is about Ginko, a Mushishi. Ginko is a man who understands the Mushi and who acts as a mediator between humans and Mushi. Mushi are not plants, animals, microbes, or fungi. It is best to think of them as primitive life forms. We tend not to notice that they exist until they have manifested some mysterious phenomena. They do not exist to frighten people; they just are. Join Ginko on his journey as he meets various people and explores the relationship between what we know as our world and the Mushi.________________________Opening Theme: "The Sore Feet Song" by Ally KerrEnding Theme: #01: "Midori no Za" by Masuda Toshio (ep 1) #02: "Mabuta no Hikari" by Masuda Toshio (ep 2) #03: "Yawarakai Kaku" by Masuda Toshio (ep 3) #04: "Makura Kouji" by Masuda Toshio (ep 4) #05: "Tabi wo Suru Numa" by Masuda Toshio (ep 5) #06: "Tsuyu wo Suu Mure" by Masuda Toshio (ep 6) #07: "Ame ga Kuru Niji ga Tatsu" by Masuda Toshio (ep 7) #08: "Umi Sakai (Unasaka) Yori" by Masuda Toshio (ep 8) #09: "Omoi Mo" by Masuda Toshio (ep 9) #10: "Suzuri ni Sumu Shiro" by Masuda Toshio (ep 10) #11: "Yama Nemuru" by Masuda Toshio (ep 11) #12: "Sugame no Sakana (On Air Ver.)" by Masuda Toshio (ep 12) #13: "Ichiya Hashi" by Masuda Toshio (ep 13) #14: "Kago no Naka" by Masuda Toshio (ep 14) #15: "Haru to Usobuko" by Masuda Toshio (ep 15) #16: "Akatsuki no Hebi" by Masuda Toshio (ep 16) #17: "Kyo Mayu Tori" by Masuda Toshio (ep 17) #18: "Yama Idaku Koromo" by Masuda Toshio (ep 18) #19: "Teppen no Ito" by Masuda Toshio (ep 19) #20: "Fude no Umi" by Masuda Toshio (ep 20) #21: "Wata Houshi" by Masuda Toshio (ep 21) #22: "Oki Tsu Miya" by Masuda Toshio (ep 22) #23: "Sabi no Naku Koe" by Masuda Toshio (ep 23) #24: "Kagari no Gyou" by Masuda Toshio (ep 24) #25: "Ganpuku Me Wazawai" by Masuda Toshio (ep 25) #26: "Kusa wo Fumu Oto" by Masuda Toshio (ep 26)moreless

    • Ginko: They [Mushi] are life at its purest form.

    • Mushi: What you are tasting is a living entity known as Light Wine. It springs from a place that normally you could not reach a river of light that flows in the deapths of the deepest darkness. We have created especially for you this wine cup which can extract the light. The river flows all around you as it has since life first began. When it nears the soil grasses grow green and forests blossom. If it recedes the landscape withers in drought. In other words it is the water of life.

    • Ginko: It's not widely known, but once in a great while an individual is born into the world who posesses a rare and wonderful gift, the power to create life.

    • Shinra: (On one side of the paper wall) Don't watch me while I draw. Ginko: (On the other side of the paper wall) All right, Shinra. Draw the wine cup Grandma was holding as I explained earlier, with your left hand. Shinra: Eh? But I don't know what color it is or what it even looks like. Ginko: That doesn't matter. Just use your imagination. Shinra: My imagination... Ginko: You should be able to.The other half of the wine cup your grandmother received should be passed on to her children and grandchildren. Ginko: (Pokes hole in wall) He told me not to watch him, but did he really think I wouldn't?

    • Biki: Suddenly there was a big flash that lit up everything around us and then we were plunged into darkness. It felt like the ground fell out beneath me and I thought I could see a river of light flowing far down below. It was only for a second after the Mushi Master gave you the glass eye but it was so beautiful, I felt as though I was being pulled into it. I wanted to stare at it forever.

    • Biki: My cousin Sui is the youngest member of our family. About 6 months ago she contracted a disease that made her eyes sensitive to light. It was a mystery. None of the eye doctors could figure out the cause of her illness and before they could find a way to treat her Sui's eyes became so sensitive that even the smallest amount of light would cause her great pain. When there was nothing they could do her parents brought her to my house since we have a sturdy storage shed that blocks out light. They said it was for Sui's own good that they left her here but to me it seemed more like they were giving up, like they were abandoning her.

    • Sui: Did you know we have another eyelid? A second one behind our outer eyelid. Between them there's a place where no outside light can ever get in. That's where the Mushi live.
      Biki: Between your eyelids?
Sui: That's right. Don't you know how to close your second eyelid? It's easy I'll show you. First close your eyes. Do you see anything?
Biki: Mmm no not a thing... Oh, hold on. I can still see some kind of flickering inside my eye.
Sui: That's right. Even after you close your eyes you're still looking at the backs of your eyelids. Your eyes aren't really closed. So that's why, if I ever want to make it so I see nothing at all, all I do is close my eyes again to shut out the flickering. That's when a curtain of darkness falls and it becomes truly pitch black.

    • Ginko: It's not your fault. Nor was it the Mushi's fault. You were both just trying to live. Nobody is guilty. Don't die. You've done nothing wrong.

  • a short story anime

    By shadowysea07, May 20, 2009

  • Probably one of the most original shows out there. It's about a man named Ginko who travels through the wilderness of Japan, never staying in one place for very long because of his tendency to attract mushi.

  • One of my all time favourite anime shows and an absolute joy to watch.

    By drdan2410, Jan 28, 2009

  • It is the first anime I have ever seen that has even come close to being within the league of the dreamlike creativity of legend Hayao Miyazaki's work.

  • Takes some getting used to, but rewards further effort.
