    • Mike asks Bub to listen to his poetry recitation, and it is here when he mentions the Douglases neighbor Miss Pitts that we learn she is actually a teacher. The character re-appears later in the season (See Episode # 29).

    • Similarly, Bub leaving to help his old friend 'Flats' Jenson in Plainview is another location mystery. There are Plainviews in New York, Texas, Minnesota, Nebraska and Oklahoma! This episode shows his attempts to travel there by bus, yet in the previous show, he went by plane.

    • So Selly is Steve's mother's cousin and she hails from South Madison (probably Wisconsin). Finally we start getting some subtle clues as to where in the Mid-west that the Douglases live. At this point in the series, Bryant Park has not been mentioned, but notice that while it rains where they live, it never seems to snow as would be consistent with living in that region?

    • While Considine, Grady and Livingston all got along very well with Frawley and that the love and respect between them was mutual, Livingston recalls that he was probably the closest of the cast to him, and perhaps more than any of the "sons", felt he had an extra special attachment to the aging curmudgeonly actor. Stanley Livingston explains, "I never really knew either of my real grandfathers and by the time we were filming the series he was sort of like my surrogate grandfather. We took to each other immediately, and some of the fondest memories I have are of the scenes I did with him".

    • Mary Jackson found fame and visibility as one of the Baldwin Sisters on "The Waltons" from 1972-81. However, she was the original Alice Horton in the "Days of Our Lives" unaired pilot. For the actual series, the role was then assumed by Frances Reid who has played her since the show's TV debut in 1965.
