  • A patient breaks out of a Navy hospital. It turns out it's a Marine recently returned from Iraq, suffering w/ PTS. There's more to this Marine as it seems that he has taken steroids to help him enter the Corps, and this has turned him into a super marine.

  • Quotes (20)

    • Tony: (Tony and McGee watch Ziva give Werth adrenaline) She's pulling a Pulp Fiction!
      McGee: Or the Hulk!

    • Tony: Ziva says she had a feeling. Tell us about that feeling. What was this feeling? Ziva: I felt... overwhelmed. Temporarily. Which does not often happen to me. When we were wrestling with Werth. (Tony and McGee look knowingly at each other) What? What is this look? McGee: Nothing. Tony: You like him. Ziva: I thought he was powerful. McGee: You really like him. Ziva: No, I am saying he's stronger than any man I have ever encountered. But, strength should not decide a battle. There is a weapon for every fight. McGee: You itching for a re-match? Tony: Wanna roll around on the ground with him some more? Ziva: I am trying to describe something... complicated. Tony: It's not complicated, Ziva. It's Conan. Ziva: It only lasted a moment. Tony: You had a moment. A moment! And a feeling and a smack to the head. (Points to himself and then to McGee) A broken nose and a dislocated shoulder. It's been a banner day! Gibbs: Easy on the pain killers, DiNozzo.

    • Tony (Talking about his abs): Hard as wood. McGee: To match your head.

    • Tony: I've been working on my six pack, you know abs. Ziva: Have you and Abby been drinking?

    • McGee: Maybe he's accused of a crime he didn't commit and is trying to promptly escape to the Los Angeles underground. Tony: He's not The A-Team, McGee.

    Trivia (2)

    • GOOF: When Cpl Werth starts to go into cardiac arrest, the doctor hands Ziva a needle with adrenalin and tells her to administer it to him. Why would the doctor ask a layman to perform this life or death task when he's there himself? Also, it seems strange that he had such a needle filled with the required drug on him, when he said that the Corporal's distress was completely unexpected. A nurse should have responded when Werth's monitor began showing his critical condition, and should have either brought the necessary drug with her, or been ordered by the doctor to retrieve it, and then administer it, if the doctor couldn't.

    • TRIVIA: Silver Star is the fourth highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of any branch of the United States Armed Forces. It is also the third highest award given for Valor (in the face of the enemy).

    Allusions (15)

    • The last name of the doctor in the episode is De La Casa. Since the doctor is Hispanic, and "casa" is Spanish for "house," the doctor's name is evidently an allusion to the character played by Hugh Laurie on Fox's TV drama House, a well as a play on the phrase "is there a doctor in the house."

    • The title, "Corporal Punishment", is the purposeful disciplining of┬ásomeone with pain for any wrong doings, bad behavior or attitude. The expression commonly alludes to hitting them with an instrument in judicial, educational or domestic settings.

    • McGee (To Tony): You know that's how Houdini died. Harry Houdini (1874-1926) was a famous magician known for escaping handcuffs and a tank full of water while hanging upside-down. It's commonly believed that Houdini died from being punched in the stomach before he could prepare for the stunt. He did give permission to a McGill University student (J. Gordon Whitehead) to punch him in the stomach (claiming he could take blows above the waist without any injuries), but the student started to punch him before Houdini had time to make preparations by tightening his stomach muscles. However, this is not actually why he died. Days before this stunt even occurred, he was diagnosed with appendicitis though he refused medical treatment. It's been stated that even if the stunt never took place he would have died anyway due to the lack of medical treatment.

    • Tony: Werth goes off the reservation, the cops are circling the hospital and then someone amps his machine up to eleven? This is an allusion to This Is Spinal Tap, from 1984, in which a rock band has special amps made with an extra eleventh volume level.

    • Tony refers to McGee as "the one armed man." In the movie The Fugitive, Dr. Richard Kimble's wife was murdered by a one armed man.
