    • Mike: (voiceover) We collect secrets over the years. Hide behind them, depend on them, like aces up our sleeve. We think we have to protect the people we love from the truth, but the truth isn't the poison, it's the cure. Best thing you can do is teach your kids not to be afraid. We try to live a good life. A clean life. But secrets get in the way. Sure, we can play dirty, use people's mistakes against them. But put all those secrets behind us, and the honest man comes out on top.

    • Ziva: Gibbs, you cannot do this alone. You have to let us help you.
Gibbs: Hey, it is not your job!
Ziva: It is not about my job! This is about my family!

    • Mike: Your whole career, you acted on instinct. Listen to your gut. Don't stop now. Shoot first, ask questions later.
Gibbs: Yeah, and if I make a mistake?
Mike: Over the years, we do some things, some good, some bad. Decisions that help one person and hurt another.
      Gibbs: Damned if you do...
Mike: In the end, we make sacrifices, live with them. Things happen sometimes that are out of our control.

    • Gibbs: I didn't call you, Admiral.
      Chegwidden: No, Director Vance did.
Parsons: Pulling out the big guns, I see. Well, let the games begin.
Chegwidden: A man's career is in balance, and you think it's a game? For what it's worth, I don't like losing, never have.

    • Gibbs: I got one question. All of this why now?
Parsons: Because enough is enough. You've been pushing legal boundaries and sweeping things under rugs for 20 years. My division of the DoD is like Internal Affairs. You think we didn't notice? Your actions have been inappropriate. And your actions are my responsibility now. The deaths of Eli David and Jackie Vance, they opened doors to an investigation and I'm happy that it did.
      Gibbs: You're happy, huh?
Parsons: I believe in upholding the law, Gibbs. And I am tired of watching you break it.

    Notes (3)

    • For the re-airing on September 17, 2013, the episode began with the message: 'In Honor of the Men and Women who lost their lives or were injured at the Washington Navy Yard on 9/16/2013.'

    • Original International Airdates:

    • John M. Jackson's appearance as Rear Admiral A.J. Chegwidden is a reprisal of his role from JAG, the show that NCIS spun off from. This is the second time one of the primary JAG cast members appeared in an episode of NCIS, the first being Patrick Labyorteaux (Lt. Bud Roberts) in the first season episode "Hung Out to Dry".

Bringing in a JAG character didn't help much.

Can anyone tell me if last season, 10, final episode was 2hrs or 2 parts. I could swear I had missed part 2 which was shown a week later. I could swear I also saw it listed online that way, and as almost 2 hrs but only in one place. I've been trying to find a site with FREE episodes so I could watch it and see if I really did miss the 2nd part but can't find it free anywhere. When I watched this weeks new premiere, I also felt confused as If I had missed something. Any ideas?
