  • Episode Description
  • Ned is worried about a hotshot young executive the company has hired, especially when Clay reminds Pat Kirkland about the company's mandatory vacation policy, which Ned hasn't been following. Kirkland insists Ned take two weeks off, during which time Ned is sure that Clay will solidify his position in the company at Ned's expense. His paranoia turns to mania as he can't quit obsessing about what Clay is doing, even when he's at a tropical resort. Returning home, Ned is a beaten man who is ready to give up, but Stacey reminds him of his old "immoral, unscrupulous" self, and encourages him to go fight and retake his position in the company.moreless

    • Clay: Well, I’ll tell you it wasn’t the money that lured me. It was Ned Dorsey. This man is a legend. And you’re only what, Fifty? Ned: Eighty.

    • Ned: The sight of your wisdom teeth has convinced me, I’ll go.

    • Eric: Yea, well, we've discussed this, though, several times, Ned, and I'd prefer it if you didn't tape things to me.

    • Clay (looking at Stacey): And who might this lovely lady be? Ned: Oh, she just might be the best damn thing that ever happened to me! But she's not, she's my wife.

    • Les (to Ned): Who is he, the money guy or is he the money guy! Back ten minutes and he saves an account! Take down your pants, I wanna kiss your behind!

    Notes (2)

    • The end credit sequence repeats the scene in the restaurant, but this time Ned poisons Amanda, prompting Eric to say "Ned, sometimes you go too far" when she falls over dead.

    • James Karen makes his first appearance as recurring character Pat Kirkland, Ned's boss at the ad agency.

    Trivia (1)

    • While giving Ned her pep talk, Debra Messing (Stacey) transposes a couple of words in a line. She says, "Who shot from mailroom clerk to copywriter in four months by breaking into the personnel files and writing effusive notes on his own very employee review sheets?" instead of "very own employee review sheets." Obviously, the take was good enough to use even with the slight error.

    Allusions (2)

    • Clay: (to Stacey) I gotta tell ya, I'm really lovin' workin' with your hubby here. The only reason I jumped agencies was to become his disciple. Amanda: Enjoy the Kool-Aid. Amanda is making refrence to the 1978 cult mass-suicide known as the Jonestown Massacre, where the leader of the Peoples Temple, convinced his followers to move to Jonestown. Then later that year he ordered his followers to commit suicide by drinking grape-flavored Flavor Aid laced with potassium cyanide .

    • Stacey: What are you guys talking about? Amanda: Oh, As soon as you for the left for the bathroom, the conversation switched from medicare to who would win a steel cage match, Mrs. Garrett or Tootie? Mrs. Garrett and Tootie are two characters from the long running sitcom The Facts of Life which is about a group of girls attending boarding school. Mrs. Garrett played by Charlotte Rae was the house mother and Tootie played by Kim Fields was one of the students.
