    • Catherine: How'd your talk with Paul Simon go? Jimmy: Oh, not so good. I think the world's going to have to wait for "A Hazy Shade of White Walls".

    • Bill: (about his cane) Where is it? Dave: I don't know. Maybe it took itself for a stroll. Bill: We both know you took my cane. When you deny it, you insult not only me, but yourself as well cane.

    • Bill: (after Lisa effortlessly opens a glass Coke bottle) I'm assuming you dated a lot of frat guys.

    • Matthew: There's something not right between me and Joe. Every time he looks at me it's like he's zapping me with hate rays. It's like, zap zap zap zap. Dave: Zap zap zap, huh? Matthew: Please don't mock me, Dave. Dave: Well, it's really hard not to.

    • Dave and Lisa kiss Mr. James: No hanky panky on the desk. I've got cameras.

    Trivia (1)

    • The subplot about the hostility between Matthew and Joe is based on the real life relationship between Andy Dick and Joe Rogan. On the DVD commentary, the producers and writers discuss how one day Dick and Rogan would act like best friends, and the next they were constantly fighting.

    Allusions (4)

    • Bill: I read your book, you magnificent bastard! Having figured out Dave's cane hiding ploy, an exultant Bill quotes George C. Scott's performance as Patton in the Oscar winning movie of the same name (1970).

    • Matthew: I'm a little bit country... While trying to get Joe to admit their differences, Matthew quotes a regular musical segment from the Donny and Marie show. By the way, Marie is the one who was a little bit country, Donny was a little bit rock and roll.

    • Jimmy: I guess the world's gonna have to wait for "a hazy shade of whitewalls." Jimmy wants Paul Simon to endorse a line of tires. His proposed slogan is a parody of the Simon and Garfunkel song, A Hazy Shade Of Winter."

    • Mr. James: I've seen the coffee.... and the damage done. Mr. James ask David if he needs more coffee, David replies no because he might have an overdose. Mr James says hes seen that happen and then says the quote to a bewildered David. It was undoubtedly a play on the words of Neil Young's 1972 song about the lethal results of heroin.
