One shouldn't judge a book by its cover - or a Phantom Of The Opera by its mask.
The tiny vignettes with which segments of "Night Gallery" were often padded out - little tales which would take up just a few minutes - were usually tiresome and often dreadful, especially when they tried to be funny; but this one's a bit different. Indeed, like other shows in this series, it's rather reminiscent of Rod Serling's earlier "Twilight Zone", pointing up a brief homily about the need to be nicer and more tolerant. Here, the lovelorn Phantom, following the original story, takes the kidnapped, terrified Christine to his subterranean lair, only to find that she's not quite the beauty he thought she was. But, hey - that's okay... The happy ending is charming.moreless
