A passel of class acts
Back in the early days of TV when the discerning viewer faced the grim prospect of sitting through inane sitcoms, violence-soaked westerns or other such pedestrian fare, for them there was hope in the form of a cultural program. And that show happens to be CBS' Omnibus.
This cultural show ran from 1953-57 and was hosted by none other than Alistair Cooke who introduce to the fortunate few who watched the show to a world of culture in the form of opera, dramatic performances, orchestral concerts, dance & even science documentaries that enlighten as well as entertain.
Although this wasn't the only program of its kind back then on TV, at least this show stood out due to its cornucopia of cultural oblations unto the viewer.moreless
