Pantomime Quiz premiered in the early days of television, originally as a local L.A. program on KTLA. Since it was telecast from the Paramount lot, it was able to attract recognizable names early on. Mike Stokey was the host through its long broadcast history. The premise was simple: two teams of celebrities each played charades with topics sent in by viewers. The team doing it in the shortest amount of time won. 'Pantomime Quiz' quickly made it to a network, but often as a replacement series--thus, it made the rounds, off and on, on CBS, ABC and NBC and DuMont. Later in it's run, Stokey re-named the show 'Stump the Stars'. At the first-ever Emmy Awards handed out January 29, 1949, 'Pantomime Quiz' won as 'Most Popular Television Program'moreless
