  • Quotes (38)

    • Janet: Where did you come from? Night Manager: My--my apartment's behind the hotel. Joe: I think she means before that. Night Manager: A man called to tell me I had the job starting the next day. I went to bed and woke up here. Tori: And that didn't seem funny to you? Night Manager: I'm used to it by now.

    • Charlie: Now, listen. We've had a very long, very weird day. And I think I speak for the group when I say that we are not against breaking your eye sockets... if we don't get some answers.

    • Charlie: Okay, what the hell was that out there? Graham: Uh... most likely an A.D.S. Bill: Say what? Graham: Active Denial System. It transmits high-intensity microwaves. Moira: Stimulates the water molecules in your skin. It's the same technology they use to reheat a burrito at 7-Eleven, except you're the burrito.

    • Bill: What could you have possibly done to make your father want to throw you into a town surrounded by face-melting pain guns? Tori: Things.

    • Janet: That's depressing. Joe: But manageable. Meaning it's not miles of ocean or barbed wire. Trees. Trees are... well, trees. Janet: Yeah, only with pain guns and God knows what else. Joe: God has nothing to do with this place.

    • Bill: Oh, you know what these last few days have taught me? Tori: Um, that working out might not be such a bad idea. Bill: Ah, we need to live every moment like it's our last. Tori: Well, that makes sense with your age. Bill: That's good.

    • Joe: Three gas masks. Janet: Leaves four of us dead. I hate this place.

    • Charlie: Looks like you broke one of the Ten Commandments. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's gas mask. Janet: Yeah, well, you broke one, too. Charlie: Which one? Janet: Thou shalt not be an ass.

    • Injoke: The attire that Moira wears, plaid pants and a black jacket, is very similar to that worn by the Prisoner, portrayed by Patrick McGoohan, in the ground-breaking British series The Prisoner (1967). A number of reviewers compared Persons Unknown to that series, as both feature individuals imprisoned in mysterious inescapable communities with eccentric residents, and both dwelt on issues of paranoia, free will, peer pressure, and continual surveillance.

    Trivia (11)

    • When Tori is dancing undressed in front of the camera in the clothing store, we get a good look at the backside of her legs. However, there is no visible wound or scar on the area of her leg where Moira has cut out the implant.

    • As Joe explores the edge of town, Janet's fortune cookie is two lines., In "Pilot," the entire message was on one line.

    • Trivia: One of the dresses in the window display of the town's women's clothing store has a pattern of alternating black and white horizontal stripes, similar to an old-style prison uniform.

    • When Moira and Graham are talking outside, after he tells her to let go of her past, she lets the scarf go and it blows away on the wind. In the next frame, when Graham holds Moira, you can see her still holding on to the scarf.

    • When everyone is standing in Ulrich's office, Erika is standing to the left in front of Charlie. After the group decides everyone should pair up, Erika states she will pair up with McNair, and then walks out of the room past Graham and Moira. However, in the next shot the top left of her head is visible in front of Charlie again.

    • It's bright daylight when Moira confronts Graham on the balcony. Moira then goes inside and fights with Janet. What appear to be only a few minutes later, Janet and Joe walk outside but it's now clearly evening.

    • Trivia: The name of the ship at the end is Almas Perdidas = Spanish for "lost souls."

    • When the Director is talking to Joe, we see one of her bodyguards standing behind Joe in front of a window. There's a long shot and the bodyguard disappears entirely out of the shot. When Joe walks away, the bodyguard gets up from the floor while holding his jaw, as if a fight had occurred between him and Joe. However, the fight itself is never shown.

    Allusions (4)

    • Bill: What Rambo movie did you just pop out of? Referencing the 1972 novel First Blood by David Morrell and subsequent movie franchise featuring John Rambo, an ex-Green Beret from Vietnam who is greeted with scorn by civilians upon his return, and dies after confronting small-town policeman. Sylvester Stallone portrayed the character in the four movies based on Morrell's novel, where he goes from a Vietnam vet who survives his first movie to a more traditional action hero in the three sequels.

    • Edick: One, never bring a bat to a gunfight. Referencing Sean Connery's dialogue in The Untouchables (1984), when his character Jim Malone comments, "Isn't that just like a wop? Brings a knife to a gun fight."

    • Tom: "There's a wolf in me... fangs pointed for tearing gashes. A red tongue for raw meat and the hot lapping of blood..." Referencing Carl Sandburg's poem "Wilderness" (1918), published in Cornhuskers.

    • Bill: You smelling what I'm cooking here? Referencing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's famous wrestling catchphrase. The full phrase, stated in the third person, is "Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?" or some minor variant.
