  • Episode Description
  • A Methodist Minister, Carl Doss and his wife Helen, unable to have their own children, are told that they are not financially secure enough to raise a child. The solution offered to them is to adopt several children of mixed race, otherwise known as unwanted. Instead of adopting one misfit, they wind up adopting a total of twelve children.

    • Carl & Helen Doss appeared on a 1954 episode of You Bet Your Life with Groucho Marx, and spoke about their experience and the children.

    • James Olson who played Carl Doss in the made for TV movie, phoned his father in Hebron, Illinois, where Carl once preached and asked his father if he remembered him. His father replied, "That crazy guy", his father shouted "he's the one who adopted all those kids".

      My name is Dick Hong and in 1956 I played Timmy in this episode, the boy who always needed to go to the bathroom. I was one of the Children in the King and I in 1955.
