  • show Description
  • Poltergeist: The Legacy was a show that tried to capture the style and success of The X-Files but move it more fully into the horror genre. 'Since the beginning of time mankind has existed between the world of light and the world of darkness. This journal chronicles the work of our secret society, known as The Legacy, created to protect the innocent from those creatures that inhabit the shadows and the night.' So the opening credits intoned. The show had a four season run, three years on the Showtime Network and one year on SciFi. It was never able to attract a huge audience, its highest ratings occurring in its final season when it featured WWE wrestler The Undertaker as a being from Hell who collected souls. While not getting the plaudits of The X-Files, it managed to create an interesting group of characters and story ideas.moreless

    • Derek: All right, as long as we control these keys, the sepulchers are safe. Now if anything should happen to any of us... Nick: Yeah, I know, swallow the key. (Derek gives him a look and sighs) Nick: Kidding... kidding.

    • Derek: The Legacy needs you. Philip: The Legacy has fought evil for 3000 years without my help. I don't see why they need my help now.

    • Derek: (quoting his father Winston Rayne) Faith has need of the whole truth.

    • Philip: Derek, watch out for Nick. He has no respect for the forces he is up against. Derek: That’s his strength, my friend."

    • Nick: Great. We've got ourselves an express elevator to Hell. Now how do we kill this thing?

    • Derek Rayne trying to get the computer to do what he wants but ends up 'cursing' it "Ah, computers."

    • Derek: (at Julia's funeral) There are a few things in this world of which I’m certain. For every darkness in life, there’s light; for every evil, there is good; there is a God in heaven.

    • Philip: (seeing Nick using a blowtorch) Still fighting fire with fire? Nick: Still pretending to be a priest?

    Notes (46)

    • When the antique owner drops the sepulcher on the floor, the only things it smashes is a statue of the Virgin Mary - a sign of what perhaps is in the box.

    • We learn that Rachel's son and husband died in a car accident.

    • We find out that the demons in the 5 sepulcher's are fallen angels. Angels that were sent to protect women years ago, but ended up mating with the women. The angels were cast out of heaven, and placed in the sepulcher's.

    • When Winston dies, he passes on his Legacy ring to Derek. (From father to son). This image is quite similar to a scene in the episode 'The Beast Within' (The final ever episode), where Derek passes on his Leagcy ring to Nick.

    • From the start of this episode we get the impression that the relationship between Winston and Derek is a very strained one, in which the two do not get along. Winston seems to be an alchloic, which Derek did not approve of.

    • From this episode, we get a sense that Nick and Philip are not the best of friends. Nick seems to have a problem with Philip re-joining the Legacy. Nick believes that Philip will quit the Leagcy, again !

    • Philip tells Derek, "The last battleground must be here (the Legacy house" The statement is true. In the series finale the last battle is fought at the site of the Legacy House.

    • We learn that Rache's dead husbad was called Patrick, while her son was called Connor.

    Trivia (10)

    • In an interview with Jordan Bayne it is said that they had a scene in which they tried time and time again to get down... but in the end it was dropped because they kept cracking up when no one could get one word all on cue. It ended up going to Derek and they changed the scene that, instead of in the Control Room, ended in the secret vault where he said "I knew it" when told about Ireland being the place of the 5th sepulchre.

    • It's the first episode we see Nick wear his US Navy jacket.

    • This episode has little to do with Nick, Rachel or Derek. It is all about Alex's behavior in tricky situations.

    • In this episode we get a rare glimpse of Nick's inner feelings for his friends. He rarely shows emotion towards anything, but in this episode he opens up to Derek. With Philip thinking of leaving, Nick is mad that he would leave after only a few months of being back. Derek manages to work out why Nick is so mad with Philip. The reason is that Nick has never had a stable family in his life. His father beat him, and his brother left him at a young age. Nick sees the Legacy as his home now, so he views Philip's departure as losing another brother.

    • Chilton Crane, who plays Caroline in the flashback scene, would later appear in the second season episode Rough Beast as Anne Lasker, Tracy Lasker's mother.

    • Colleen Rennison, who plays Kali, would later return in the fourth season as Kat's witchy friend, Miranda.

    • At the opening of the episode, Nick and Alex are talking in the car about Derek's bad habit of going into dangerous situations all alone and without backup. But as soon as they get to town, Nick, Alex, and Rachel indulge in the same bad habit, each going off alone into danger. The demon-possessed bad guys couldn't have captured them nearly as easily if they had just stayed together.

    • Nick carries a photo of Julia and him in his wallet.
