  • Episode Description
  • February 25, 1958: As a horse-playing, traveling brush salesman, Sam finds himself with two wives and two families. Although Ziggy predicts that Sam's mission is to choose between the two lives, the choice is made more difficult by the fact that there's only a 50/50 chance that he'll choose the right one. As if things weren't bad enough, Sam finds that his penniless host owes a pair of bookies some big bucks.moreless

  • Quotes (3)

    • Sam: I decided honesty would be the best answer. Al: For Boy Scouts, not for bigamists!

    • Al: Remember Sam, you can have fun with Ellen, but be back in time for Rachel. This is my kind of leap!

    • Sam: What did you find out, Al? Al: Well, I was talking to the real Marty. I think I found a new idol. Sam: Al, the guy's a bigamist! Al: I know, but think about it. If I had tried that, I could've gone through ten wives instead of five.

    Trivia (4)

    • When Sam announces the family will be going to the movies, Josh says he would like to see Chainsaw Massacre or Invasion from Uranus. Neither of these movies actually exist, and they are most likely made up for the episode. They could be used, however, to simply give the audience an idea of the type of movie Josh would want to watch, "Chainsaw Massacre" a possible reference to the 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and "Invasion from Uranus" a possible reference to 1953's Invasion from Mars, both horror films unsuitable for children.

    • Ashley Peldon, who plays Jessica, is best known for her recurring role as "young Miss Parker" on the science fiction/adventure series The Pretender. Interestingly, she played the young version of the show's female protagonist, a woman sent to retrieve a genius who would become someone else weekly by "pretending" to be trained in various professions, a similar premise to Quantum Leap.

    • When Sam returns to talk to Ellen and instead finds Martin, Jr., the reflection in the sliding glass door is of Sam, not Martin whom he leaped into.

    • Michael Bellisario, who plays Martin, Jr., is the son of Quantum Leap's creator, Donald P. Bellisario.

    Allusions (2)

    • When Ellen and Rachel confront one another, they reveal their full names to be "Ellen Louise Elroy" and "Rachel Thelma Elroy." Previously, Sam's mother's name was revealed to be Thelma Louise Beckett. The names could be a reference to the 1991 film Thelma & Louise, about two women who go on the run after killing an attempted rapist.

    • The episode title "A Tale Of Two Sweeties" is a reference to the novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
