  • Episode Description
  • How babies are born is explored, in great detail, in this episode, as a family welcoming their fourth child is profiled during the last few weeks before delivery. Patrick Stewart reads a poem about how special each person is when they come into the world, and how every birth should be celebrated.

    • A portion of this episode was released as a bonus on the DVD, Family Matters.

    • This episode is one of the few to have a disclaimer before the introduction to warn young viewers that the footage of the birth might be too graphic.

    • This show aired for the very last time on the early morning of May 11, 2001. Who claimed the last-ever broadcast of this Reading Rainbow episode? None other than Cleveland's WVIZ/PBS, who had been carrying the series every week of every year since the first day it started.

    • This was the only episode of Reading Rainbow that was never broadcast in certain markets, such as South Carolina and Manhattan, because of its graphic contents. Admitting to failure, GPN removed this episode from all media prior to September 2001.
