  • show Description
  • From the folks that brought you "The State" and "Viva Variety!" are back for some law-enforcement mayhem. Meet the men and women of the Washoe County Sheriff's Department, led by Lt. Jim Dangle (Tom Lennon) -- a straight-and-narrow cop who might not be all that "straight" after all. Deputies include a former topless showgirl and a 5-foot-4 veritable crime-fightin' machine. On tonight's premiere episode, Lt. Dangle declares Reno a zero-tolerance town. Unfortunately, the entire population has heard the news and is obeying every rule. Awards & Nominations •2004 GLAAD Media Award - Nominated Outstanding Comedy Series Reno Trivia •Almost all character dialogue is improvised by the actors. •The main actors frequently appear on the show as other characters with their faces blurred. For example, Kerri Kenney often played Jackie, the unbalanced prostitute. •One of the apartment buildings seen in Season 2 was torn down shortly after filming was finished in Carson. •According to an interview with 'Thomas Lennon' , the main cast member who ruins the most takes by laughing out loud is Carlos Alazraqui. •This show uses improvisation, as 99% of the lines are unscripted. •Filming Locations: Carson, California, USA & Reno, Nevada, USA.moreless

  • Quotes (249)

    • Wiegel: Last night, at about 0700 hours, I returned to my home, and I de-robed myself, and noticed that I had a Pez in my belly button. Have you ever heard of anything as ridiculous as that? Dangle: Trudy, did you just make up the story about finding a Pez in your belly button just to get attention from us and to have something to say in the morning meeting? Or did it really happen? (Wiegel looks guilty)

    • Wiegel: There is some racial tension on the squad. And, I mean, I think it's normal. But I think, unfortunately, it all stems from one guy...from Officer Garcia. And, I mean, the poor guy can't help it, he's Mexican.

    • (Dangle is discussing the use of the N-word with the gang.) Dangle: (answering Garcia’s question) You want me to check our tolerance policy? The answer is No; It is not OK. Jones: (raising hand) Um, could I? I don’t use it, but, if I wanted to… Williams: Yeah! Jones: Could I? Williams: I think I should. Wiegel: What if someone says, Whe-who-wh-which nigger took the last donut? Dangle: That’s wildly inappropriate.

    • Garcia: (To a mime he just attacked) You're speaking English now!

    • Wiegel: You know...I collect baby clothes. Just in case. Dangle: You collect baby clothes?

    • Jones: (About Johnson) Her hair's like a dandelion, like if you blew on it, a lot of it'd fall off.

    • Wiegel: Raineesha Williams is a loud-mouthed, backstabbing...Jew. I wanna say Jew, but I don't think that she's Jewish. I actually think that she's very openly Catholic, which I have a problem with too.

    • Dangle: (About his shorts) I actually had to lobby the sheriff's department to wear these. But my argument was, "I'm out there in the streets everyday, I've gotta be able to move like a cheetah. Like a law enforcement cheetah."

    Notes (38)

    • According to Thomas Lennon, during the first take for the mime scene, Carlos Alazraqui accidentally hit Ben Garant in the family jewels so hard that Robert almost blacked out. He then decided to wear a cup for the next take.

    • Confused viewers would see the "coming attractions" at the end of the episode and think they'd missed some shows. It turns out they filmed these with no intention of having follow-up episodes.

    • Carlos Alazraqui, who plays Deputy Garcia, provides the voice for many famous cartoon characters and advertisments, one of which is the Taco Bell Dog.

    • Originally developed for Fox, the Reno 911! pilot was shelved for two years until Comedy Central resurrected it and ordered a 13-episode run.

    • There's a very funny Easter Egg on the Reno 911! dvd; if you highlight the thumbtack next to "Episode 2", you see the episode with the cast doing voice-overs to recreate the show from memory as best they can.

    • In the dvd commentary, Wendy McClendon-Covey mentions that the actor that plays her boyfriend (Timothy Brennen) is actually an old friend of hers, which made the makeout scenes very awkward for both of them.

    • In the dvd commentary, we learn that the actors on Reno 911! are charged a $5 fine every time they break character. We also learn that Carlos Alaraqui has by far been fined more than any of the other cast members.

    • In the restaurant scene between Garcia and Jackie the hooker you may notice there are several edits. That's because Carlos Alaraqui kept laughing every time Kerri Kenney would say things smelled like balls.

    Allusions (92)

    • Star Trek In the opening scene Garcia mistakenly shoots a deputy at what turns out to be a surprise party for him. Rather than have one of the regular cast members get shot, they took a tip from the series Star Trek, where when you saw a crew member that wasn't part of the normal cast, odds are they were going to get killed on that episode's mission.

    • Williams: Officer Jones...we had a thing going on. This is a slightly altered line from the Billy Paul song "Me And Mrs. Jones".

    • What's Happening After Raineesha maces Carl for saying she looks like Shirley Hemphill, she leaves saying, "Hey Hey Hey". This is the greeting Dwayne would use on the tv show What's Happening.

    • Dangle: There's one for Father Dowling. Dangle is referring to the tv series Father Dowling Mysteries starring Tom Bosley as a mystery solving priest.

    • The Chicken Hole The name of the legal brothel in this episode is a reference to The Chicken Ranch, a real operating brothel in Nevada.

    • Dangle: Let's Xanadu it right into the car now. Xanadu is a 1980 movie starring Olivia Newton-John about a roller-skating fairy who falls in love with a mortal.

    • Junior: You know, I thought about joining the FBI for about 20 minutes after I saw that movie with Jodie Foster and the guy who was eating people in his basement. The movie Junior is talking about is Silence Of The Lambs.

    • Dangle: Heute ich bin ein Berliner. "Ich bin ein Berliner" ("I am a Berliner") is a quotation from a June 26, 1963 speech by U.S. President John F. Kennedy in West Berlin.
