  • Episode Description
  • Christian finds himself in trouble when he wakes up in a room covered in blood, and no memory of how he got there. Jake tries to find out what happened, but his concentration is divided between the mystery and Mal's suddenly serious medical condition. The case takes many twists and turns, but all evidence seems to point back to Christian being the guilty party. With Jake busy on two fronts, Tinny and Des hold down the fort at the Doyle P.I. Agency and solve their first case.moreless

  • Quotes (12)

    • Jake: Christian, what happened here? Christian: I have no idea. Jake: Stop what you are doing and call a lawyer. Christian: My lawyer? Why? Jake: Because I am about to call the police. Christian: You think that I did this to somebody? Jake: Stop mopping up the crime scene, and call your lawyer, now!

    • (lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to various monitors) Mal: This is your fault. Jake: What? Mal: If you shovelled the van out of the snow, like I asked, none of us would be here right now. Jake: Oh, yeah, the blockages in your heart, that's my fault; that's got nothing to do with the seven trays of pork chops you shove down your gob every night Mal: Two sons at home and neither of you dare to lift a shovel.

    • (talking about Mal's prognosis) Jake: Nikki, I know you, that's your 'bad news' face. Nikki: Don't worry, Jake, if there's anything this hospital can handle, it's heart disease. Jake: Yeah, I suppose the salt-beef diet is good for something.

    • (checking up on Christian's doings from the night before) Jake: Any ladies in particular? Paddy: Ah, there was one who bought him a daiquiri, had it sent over, yeah. Jake: Really. Did they hit it off? Paddy: Well, it would have been hard not to. Jake: I don't know what you mean. Paddy: I mean she's in and out of here all the time with... customers, if you know what I'm saying. Jake: Oh, okay. Did she have a name? Paddy: Chastity.

    • Sgt. Hood: Look, I'd steer clear of Doyle until this case is closed. Leslie: Don't worry, I know how to handle him. Sgt: Hood: Oh, I don't doubt that. But Sergeant, it's obvious the brass wants to see your star keep rising. I would hate to see a silly little conflict of interest tangle you up.

    Trivia (8)

    • According to Jake's phone, Christian called from 1-709-555-0133, and he was located at 16 Signal Hill Road, St. John's, NL. When Jake arrives there, it is a large, stand-alone, dark-coloured house. However, according to Google Maps, this address is one small house in a line of houses that are either connected or built extremely close to each other. The houses in the area are beiges and yellows.

    • After leaving the site of the apparent murder, Jake drives off to find Christian. When he does, Christian is standing opposite the Quidi Vidi Brewing Company building; this is located at 36 Barrows Road, St. John's, NL, and is just over 2 km away from 16 Signal Hill Road.

    • Christian's rehab 28-day coin is from Lakeview Outreach. Christian was in Ontario, and there is a Lakeview Methadone Outreach Program for people with opioid addictions; it is located in Ontario in Thunder Bay.

    • Tinny's cell phone number, as shown on Jake's phone, is 709-555-3256.

    • Des: 22, 25, 10, 19, 18, 31... starting line-up from the 1972 Habs. The 1972 Montreal Canadiens (The Habs) starting line-up included #22: Steve Shutt, forward; #25: Jacques Lamaire, forward; #10: Guy Lafleur, right wing; #19: Larry Robinson, defence; #18: Serge Savard, defence. However, there was no #31 in that year (1971 - 1972). From the 2009 - 2010 year, there is a #31: Carey Price, who plays goal.

    Allusions (1)

    • Christian: Look, I'm sure that somebody slipped me something. Sgt. Hood: Or you slipped yourself something. Christian: Kojak, I'm fresh out of the best rehab clinic in Southern Ontario. Kojak was police crime show that ran from 1973 - 1978, with Telly Savalas as the bald, lollipop-sucking Theo Kojak. Sgt. Hood, to whom this remark is addressed is also bald.
