  • show Description
  • Sara Stanley is sent to live with country relatives and has a hard time fitting in with her cousins.Hetty King, who Sara starts living with, lives near her brother Alec and his wife Janet and their children Felicity, the perfectionist, Felix, who always has an idea which doesn't go to plan and quiet Cecily who loves the farm.Hetty and Alec's younger sister Olivia is a single woman trying to make a career in the world of journalism and falls in love with Jasper, a local inventor.Felicity has many ideals, but when Gus arrives in Avonlea he isn't exactly what she is looking for, but he is determined that she is the girl for him.Following their success with "Anne of Green Gables," the talented duo of Kevin Sullivan and Trudy Grant set their eyes toward a television series, based on one of Lucy Maud Montgomery's favorite characters, Sara Stanley, The Story Girl. Using tales from the books, "The Story Girl," "The Golden Road," "The Chronicles of Avonlea" and "The Further of Chronicles of Avonlea," Sullivan Entertainment created a heartwarming family c TV series. Set against the stunning backdrop of Prince Edward Island, Canada, Road to Avonlea follows the adventures of the King family and the residents in the quaint town of Avonlea at the turn of the 20th century.Road to Avonlea first aired in 1990 on Canada's CBC. It was soon picked up by America's Disney Channel, who re-named it "Avonlea." The series ran for seven seasons until 1996, a total of 91 - 1 hour episodes. Since the series end, Sullivan Entertainment has filmed a special reunion movie in 1998, "Happy Christmas Miss King" with many of our favorite Avonlea family members.moreless

    • (To Abigail after a dangerous buggy ride) Sara: Let Mr. MacEwan drive the buggy home.

    • (To Abigail) Malcolm: You must be jokin''re not gonna throw me over cause I don't wipe my boots.

    • (To Abigail after she thinks they'd lost "Lucky" forever) Malcolm: So it's come to that, has it? I can't even get a hug from my wife on our one month anniversary.

    • (About the appearance of the baby "Lucky" on the doorstep) Malcolm: It'll be a cold day on the equator when Abner Jefferies knows something I don't.

    • Peg: Now, you believe I have the powers of witch, don't you? Felix: Yes. Peg: See this stone? Looks like an ordinary stone, doesn't it? Well, it's not. It's a magic crystal. The one who possesses this, fears nothing. Not a raging river, not a wild beast, not even Hetty King, the school teacher. I give you this magic crystal, Felix King, age 11. With it, you will be able to spell any word ever invented in the known universe and beyond.

    • Hetty: Cows and sows give birth as well, but to my knowledge, this doesn't qualify them for Teachers' College.

    Trivia (29)

    • As Malcolm is leaving town in the coach, you'll notice that the coach company is in Rosemary Dunsmore?...

    • The music Felicity and the Prince of Spelling dance to is "Once Upon a Dream", taken from Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

    • At the harvest party, Parker's assistant inexplicably announces him as "Judson Carter."

    • Contributed by Brennor:
In front of Province magistrates, university officials and most of his extended family, Roger King declares that he's going to make Alex find out what it's like to be crippled then throws him off the bridge then stands there and does nothing for several seconds. Only after Hetty begs him to save the unmoving Alex from the water, does Roger do so and NONE of the above-mentioned people so much as reprimand much less attempt to punish Roger for his deliberate assault on Alex. Instead, the family treats him as though he's a hero for saving Alex(ignoring that it was HIS fault Alex had nearly drowned), the university doesn't seem to mind risking tuition-paying students from Roger's temper and the magistrates press no charges whatsoever against Roger!

    • The competition sponsors "Rollings Reliable" were also the sponsor for the writing competition which Anne Shirley entered in "Anne of Green Gable: The Sequel".

    • Felix is making deliveries with Blackie. But two episodes eailer in "Felix and Blackie," Blackie died. I'm guessing that some of the episodes were not aired in order, resulting in some chronological problems.

    • Digger gets billing over Baby Daniel---

    • Hetty in previous seasons would have shunned the novella she was reading, and certainly would not have entertained writing one herself.
