    • Andy McNally: Hey! What's with the fake warrant?
Sam Swarek: It's only fake if they look.
Andy McNally: Listen, I'm trying to play by the rules, okay? I'm trying to play by your rules.
Sam Swarek: That's the thing, I don't actually have any rules. But hey, thanks for playing.

    • Andy McNally: (Andy follows Sam outside of the Black Penny to the parking lot to talk about Emily) You really gave up the whole case for her, huh?
Sam Swarek: Yeah, well, who knows what I gave up? Maybe nothing. Emily is smart that way.
Andy McNally: Were you scared in there?
      Sam Swarek: Yeah. You?
Andy McNally: No. I mean, you were there. (Andy gives Sam her hand and he shakes it)
Sam Swarek: Let me take you home. (Andy steps closer and smiles) McNally. (both move in for a kiss before Andy steps away)
Andy McNally: Uh, I can't, I can't, I can't do this. I'm sorry. It's just that this is my first week at work.
Sam Swarek: (stepping away from her) Well, yeah, like I said, you're not my type, right?
      Andy McNally: Disregard?
      Sam Swarek: Disregard.

    • Sam Swarek: (after being assigned as Andy's Training Officer and they're about to ride together for the first time) Okay, so, I'm sure you've had the talk. Partners, you back me up no matter what, don't move unless I tell you to, it's my car so my rules are the rules.
      Andy McNally: Yes, sir.
Sam Swarek: Good. So here is my addendum. I'm here because I rather work the streets than man the wire room until a spot in Guns and Gangs opens up and while I do like working the streets I did not ask to train a rookie, I did not ask to have a partner, I'm not your boyfriend, I will not be holding your hand.
Andy McNally: Well, that's great because I don't date cops anyway.
Sam Swarek: Sweetheart, you're not my type.

    • Sam Swarek: (Andy comes into the station with Oliver having just collared a guy) Oh, hello.
Andy McNally: Huh, you're in uniform?
Sam Swarek: Yeah, well, can't really work undercover now, everybody on the street knows I'm a cop. So, thanks for that. (turns to the guy Andy collared) Did she chase you down an alley and jump on you, too? Yeah, she does that. Sure he's not an undercover cop?

    • Gail Peck: You dating anyone these days?
Andy McNally: Uh, nope, no. You? (Gail looks at her in disbelief)
Gail Peck: It's just that you and Swarek seem kinda friendly.
      Andy McNally: (looks away) Hm?
Gail Peck: I'm not saying he's not adorable, in a sort of bossy rough trade kind of way. Just, just be careful. Okay? That's all. I mean, he's your Training Officer and you're a rookie. It's kind of a no-no. It's actually a rule.
Andy McNally: Yeah, well, it doesn't need to be 'cause he's not my type.
Gail Peck: Oh, shut up! He'd be anybody's type.

    • Sam Swarek: (Andy is leaving the precinct and Sam overtakes her at the parking lot) Hey. You need a ride?
Andy McNally: No, thanks. Actually, I'm just gonna walk. Sorry about tonight.
      Sam Swarek: You'll get better.
Andy McNally: (scoffs) Sure I will.
Sam Swarek: Look, it's my job, alright? Something happens to you, it's on me.
Andy McNally: It's okay, sir. I completely get it.
Sam Swarek: Alright. I don't want anything to happen to you.

    • Sam Swarek: Congratulations Epstein. Those guys you cuffed upstairs? Quick estimate I'd say they were unloading at least 40 unregistered weapons. Someone's making the news. Let's just hope they leave out the part where two rookies from 15 put a civilian's life in danger to make the bust.
Dov Epstein: Sir, we that it was-
Andy McNally: Sadie said it was safe.
Sam Swarek: Of course she said it was safe. The girl would have said anything not to go back to jail. The thing is, it is your job to know why people are saying what they're saying. You wanna be a cop, learn to read the signs. The two of you put a desperate woman's life in danger to make yourselves look good. (steps closer to Andy) And you nearly got yourself killed in the process. Nice work.

    • Sam Swarek: (Sam enters the women's locker room before the rookies go on their first undercover assignment as prostitutes) You, uh, always take this long figuring out what to wear?
Andy McNally: You always hang around women's locker rooms?
Sam Swarek: Hey, you started it. (Looking at the photos in Andy's locker) Oh, who's this?
Andy McNally: None of your business.
Sam Swarek: Right. (pointing at the mirror in her locker) Magnetic, huh? That's cool. Good idea.
Andy McNally: Sir. (Andy shows him her shirt, hinting at the fact that she wants to get changed)
Sam Swarek: You're ready for this, right?
      Andy McNally: For what?
      Sam Swarek: Tonight.
      Andy McNally: Yeah, of course.
Sam Swarek: Good. (smiles reassuringly at her and starts walking away) I like the leaopard print one.
Andy McNally: Oh good, good. Cause I'm wearing the green one.

    Trivia (6)

    • Goof: When the officers are looking at the photos from the shooting, Diaz prints a photo to the "Main Bullpen Color Laser". The printer that is on the desk printing out photos is an inkjet, not a laser.

    • Goof: When the girl in the red coat is shot and Andy is sprayed with blood spatter, in the lower right quadrant of the frame, you can see the crew member's hand and bottle spraying Andy with red liquid (fake blood).

    • When the woman whose husband was in the fire arrives at the scene and sees the burned building, she gets out of the car saying "Bozhe moy!" three times, which means "My God!" in Russian.

    • Rookie Zoe Martinelli's murder case is first mentioned in Season 1 Episode 1 Fresh Paint when Detective Luke Callaghan formally introduces himself to Andy McNally.

    • In this episode, we learn Andy McNally's real first name is Andrea, the name of her mother's best friend.

    • Goof: At the end of the episode, during Chris and Dove's conversation when Chris bends down to pick something up off the floor, you can see the green tape marker for Gregory Smith. It then cuts to Dove, and cuts back to Chris kneeling, and the tape is gone again.
