  • show Description
  • Ryan Caulfield is a young cop. A young cop. 19 in fact. He works in one of the most violent sections of Philadelphia. He could have gone to college, but chose the cop route (possible because his father, a former cop, is in prison). Susser is his veteran partner who has nicknamed Ryan "Mo". Veras is another rookie who is Ryan's friend. They report to Sgt. Palmero and cool Lt. Vaughn, who runs the precinct.Vic was Ryan's best friend who is bright but decided to work at a gas station. H was another nerdy pal who works in his family's plumbing business.Ryan shared his stories of the difficulty of the inner city in a voice over.Originally, the show was to be titled just Ryan Caulfield, then producers changed the name to The Badland. At one point, producers even considered Ryan Caulfield: The Badlands. The 'Badland' name caused an outcry from city leaders in Philadelphia that it gave a bad impression of their city, so the title was changed back to Ryan Caulfield, only this time they added the Year One.Ryan Caulfield was largely panned by critics. Described as "NYPD Blue meets Felicity", RC:Y1 was Fox's attempt to compete with WB's ever growing teen audience. Ultimately, this show wasn't the answer. The show only aired twice on the Fox network, though 8 episodes were filmed. A ninth episode, King of Hearts, is rumoured to have been written (copyright shows Ted Mann as the writer) and cast, but it was never filmed. To this date (2007), the show has NOT been re-run, nor has it been released to DVD.The series was made for television for Fox by The Regency TV company.moreless
