  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (4)

    • Lamont: I wonder why he spells his name like that. Fred: Well, I saw his nightclub act once and (grinning) I don't know why he's got those two Ds but I know why he's got all them Xs. (grins even wider)

    • Fred: I wanted to do my own thing. Lamont: And did you? Fred: Yes. Lamont: What was it? Fred: Awnings. I always liked to make awnings. Lamont: Why? Fred: I like to hang them. I like to hang them over the windows at the YWCA. Lamont: The YWCA? But that's for women. Fred (grinning): And you're still asking why?

    • Redd Foxx: Poor man [Fred]. Worse set of legs I've ever seen! Sad, Sad!

    • Fred (to contestant): Are you sure you're here for the right Foxx? This is the Redd one, not the silver one!

    Notes (3)

    • This plot line was probably first introduced by Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners. In the episode titled "Catch a Star" (aired December 15, 1956), all four of the main characters met their real-life portrayer. Four years after "Redd Meets Fred," Mork & Mindy would imitate this plot line on the episode "Mork Meets Robin Williams."

    • Debraca Foxx is Redd Foxx's real-life daughter.

    • Redd Foxx appears in a dual role, as himself and as Fred Sanford.

    Allusions (1)

    • Fred (to contestant): Are you sure you're here for the right Foxx? This is the Redd one, not the Silver one! The Silver Fox is country singer and two time Grammy winner Charlie Rich. His biggest hit was The Most Beautiful Girl released in 1973. Mr. Rich passed away in 1995.
