    • (The judge is performing the ceremony after telling Fred & Esther they must be married before he can annul it & they can be rid of each other and the judge can be rid of them) Judge: Esther, do you take this man as your lawfully wedded husband, for better or worse; for richer or poorer; in sickness and in health; to love honor, cherish, and obey until death do you part? Esther(reticently): I do. Fred(angrily): You would. Judge: Fred? Fred: What? Judge: Do you take this woman... Fred: Judge, I've taken all I can stand. Judge: be your lawfully wedded wife, for better or worse... Fred: If this is better, I can't do no worse. Judge: ...for richer or poorer; in sickness and in health; to love honor, cherish, and obey.... Fred: None of the above. Judge: ...until death do you part? (Fred stands silently.) Judge: Mr. Sanford, just say I do. (Fred moves his lips to say I do but nothing comes out and Esther elbows him to try to get him to speak) Cal: Come on, partner. You got it licked now. Fred(hesitantly): I do. Judge: The by the power vested in me by the state of Missouri, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride. Fred: Well, on with the annulment.

    • (The Fremont, Missouri fire alarm has sounded and the only judge in town, who had just married Fred and Esther and was about to annul it, is getting ready to go fight the fire.) Fred: Where are you going, Judge? Judge: It's a small town. I'm also the city fire chief. That sounds like a four alarmer, you know. Fred: Wait a minute! Come back! I'm still married! I'm still married to the creature that ate Okefenokee! Esther: Where are you going old fool? Fred: I'm going to follow the judge. Anything happens to him, I'm gonna throw myself in the flames!
