  • It IS a special episode when the musical guest outshines the host onstage and in sketches.

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (3)

    • Amy Poehler: Earlier today former Vermont Governor Howard Dean became the new head of the Democratic National Committee. No word on who will be the neck.

    • Tina Fey: In the wake of the successful Iraqi elections, President Bush's job approval rating has jumped up to 57 percent. Or, as high school teachers call it, an "F."

    • Begger Girl: (feels piece of paper) This is a Burger King receipt! You're trying to cheat a blind homeless girl!

    Notes (9)

    • Sketches/segments not shown in the 60 minute version: Kelly Clarkson's performance of "Breakaway," "Rap Night," all three "Important Moments in Black History" segments, "Gays in Space," and "Public Speaking Class."

    • Will Ferrell was in the audience for the live show. As he was entering 30 Rock that night, one fan told him: "I'm excited to see Bewitched!" Ferrell stopped and looked at the fan with a serious, frozen look and said "It's not coming out." He held this stern look for five seconds and then burst out laughing.

    • A promo for this episode had Jason Bateman standing facing the camera with Kelly Clarkson in front of him on his right and Amy Poehler in makeup as Michael Jackson in a similar-MJ looking red suit with a emblem on it on Batmean's left. Jason tells everyone to watch the show. "Michael" tells Jason how great it is to see him grown up and Jason thanks "him." "Michael" then says to Kelly, "It is great to see you too Elizabeth Taylor," to which a flabbergasted Kelly responds with, "Thanks."

    • In nearly every sketch they appeared in together, Jason Bateman and Amy Poehler played some sort of couple, a wink and nod to Will Arnett, Bateman's former AD co-star.

    • Amy Poehler's husband Will Arnett had a small role in an awards show sketch that was cut after dress rehearsal. It was called "The Blah Blah Blah Awards" where all of the people only said "Blah blah blah."

    Trivia (2)

    • Horatio Sanz says when playing Kim Jong Il that The O.C. airs at the same time as Survivor and The Apprentice on Thursday nights. At the time, The Apprentice aired an hour later than the other two shows in the US, though it varies worldwide.

    • During "Monkeys Throwing Poop At Celebrities," there are several shots of the monkey where you can see the poop being thrown by someone off-camera.

    Allusions (1)

    • Subway Passenger: You're going to Hollywood, sister! This is the same phrase that American Idol judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson say to auditioners when they send them through to the next round. Since Kelly was the first winner of American Idol, slipping that catchphrase into this episode almost seems ironic.
