  • Dr. Cole: What fresh hell is this? This is an allusion to American author/critic/poet Dorothy Parker (1893–1967). She reportedly answered her phone with the phrase regularly. It is also the title of a biography written about her by Marion Meade.

  • Although spelled differently, the character name "Bordon" may be a reference to Lizzie Borden who is famous for (though was acquitted of) attacking her parents with an axe.
