  • show Description
  • Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! premiered on September 13, 1969. This cartoon introduced four kids and a dog named Scooby-Doo. These kids were Daphne Blake, Freddy Jones, Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, and their mascot. They traveled around in a green van known as "The Mystery Machine" and solved many scary mysteries along the way. In 1972, this show became The New Scooby-Doo Movies, which were hour-long episodes in which the gang teamed up with famous animated stars and celebrites to solve mysteries. This format aired until 1973. Scooby-Doo was so popular to Hanna-Barbara that it spawned many different cartoon series throughout the 1970's and the early 1980's. These shows were as follows: The Scooby-Doo Show, a revamped format of this show, Scooby and Scrappy-Doo, which introduced the character Scrappy-Doo, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, and the last incarnation, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, which featured the cast as kids. After more than a decade-long absence of original weekly shows, a new series, What's New Scooby-Doo?, began airing in September 2002. Theme Song Lyrics Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you? • Johnny: Isn't "Jinkies" a breakfast cereal?

    • (first lines)
Shaggy: What a nervous night to be walking home from the movies, Scooby Doo. And all because you had to stay and see "Star: Dog Ranger of the North Woods" twice!

    • Shaggy: I've seen guys do the splits, but this is ridiculous.

    • Daphne: Hey look! A secret room! Shaggy: Somebody sure is a messy housekeeper!

    • Daphne: Gol-ly. This place sure is creepy at night. Shaggy: It's even creepy during the day.

    • Fred: That settles it. There's something fishy going on in that museum. Scooby: You mean? Fred: That's right Scooby. Tonight we're going fishing.

    • Fred: What's an empty old suit of armor doing in the driver's seat of this pick-up? Shaggy: Maybe he went out for the night.

    • (Scooby stops suddenly and Shaggy trips over him) Shaggy: Like next time, signal.

    Notes (160)

    • This premiered as part of Johnny Bravo.

    • The Black Night appears in Scooby Doo Night Of 100 Frights.

    • Villian:J. WicklesReason: He and the gang of forgers were stealing paintings and replacing them with fake ones. So, he had to kidnapped Professor Hyde White because he was the only person who could've spotted the fakes.

    • We see the back door of the Mystery Machine open in this episode, something that doesn't happen very often. It also appears to be stocked with various supplies, like a first aid kit and a ladder. Typically the back of the Mystery Machine is completely empty.

    • Adapted into the comic book story of the same name (Gold Key issue #1, March 1970).

    • Professor Hyde-White makes a cameo appearance (one of the many masks pulled off at the unveiling of the culprit) in the 1997 JOHNNY BRAVO episode "Bravo Doobie Doo" which guest stars the entire gang.

    • For the first few episodes, some translations will also have the end theme in English rather than just music or the song being sung in that language.

    • This episode isn't shown that often on TV. The rest of the episodes appear a lot more often.

    Trivia (129)

    • When the gang return the knight to Mr. Wickles, the knight's eyes can be seen during the converstation. However, Mr. Wickles is later revealed as the villian. So he shouldn't be around when the knight was alive.

    • When Velma says "So that's where the old knight was headed for", her lips don't move.

    • Velma mentions that Shaggy was a gymnast in high school.

    • When Daphne picks the back door in the hidden room, the knight comes out. The knight's suit of armor was missing its helmet design, but in the next scene, it's back on again.

    • When Scooby puts on the suit of armor at the end of the episode, the suit was fitted perfectly for Scooby’s paws, even though earlier, it was made for fingers...not paws.

    • We learn in this episode that Shaggy is a ventriloquist.

    • After Shaggy falls from the top window of the museum, he lands in a pile and then gets up and walks away wearing a hat. Then the camera changes and the hat is gone like it just vanished.

    • Why would a WWI-vintage airplane that's part of a museum exhibit have gasoline in its engine and be in full working order, thus enabling it to fly around the museum?

    • Velma: (in mock German) Veeeeeerrry Interesting! This was a catch-phrase of the time from the NBC comedy/variety series Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Arte Johnson, as a German WW2 soldier would emerge from the leaves of a plant, cigarette in hand, and use the phrase in various contexts ("Veeerrry interesting...but stupid!").

    • Fred: Come on Scooby, be brave. Just think of Rin Tin Tin? Lassie? John Wayne? Rin Tin Tin was a German Shepard who was cast in heroic roles in major pictures during the 1930's and 1940's. Lassie was featured in a television show bearing his name that aired during the fifties and was known for his bravery. John Wayne was a famous western actor known for the brave characters he played through out his lifetime (1907-1979).

    • The name of this episode is also the question "What the heck is going on".

    • Shaggy: Yeah, you got him. King Kong in the flesh! When Shaggy gets stuck in the trap and the gang think they got The Ape Man, he references King Kong.

    • None: Ape Man wearing a Scooby-Doo mask
The concept of a villain impersonating a good guy by wearing a realistic costume or mask of him/her (typically to give the hero a bad image or confuse him) is a classic Hanna-Barbera gag, which was also used with Ricochet Rabbit, Hong Kong Phooey, Grape Ape's pal Beegle Beagle, Squiddly Diddly, Fred Flintstone, Richie Rich, Snagglepuss and even Scooby-Dee. This would also occur on three later episodes, Scooby's Gold Medal Gambit, Homeward Hound and A Scooby-Doo Valentine, as well as on a later ad in the UK with David Beckham wearing a Scooby suit.

    • The mouse that stands near the fun-house mirror (and creeps out Scooby) seems to resemble Pixie the Mouse from the "Pixie and Dixie" segments on The Huckleberry Hound Show.

    • Daphne: Look, Scooby has a dog puppet. Velma: So this is the canine Mata Hari. The Mata Hari was a woman who reinvented herself as a princess in the early twentieth century and was known for her mystique and powers of seduction. She was executed for rumors of her being a spy.

    • Inca: His name
"Inca" is the name of the first tribe of people known to have lived on Earth.
