  • show Description
  • Sea Hunt was the first television series that centered around underwater adventures. Creator Ivan Tors and star Lloyd Bridges brought skin diving to the public's attention and inspired a newfound interest in the sport. A second syndicated series was produced in 1987-88 in Victoria, British Columbia with Ron Ely ("Tarzan") and T.V. commercial actress Kimber Sissons as his daughter. Underwater filming took place in the Bahamas, or Vancouver studio tanks. There were 22 half-hour episodes.moreless

  • Quotes (17)

    • Mike Nelson: (narrating) I was pinned to the ocean bottom with 6,000 pounds of metal across my legs.

    • Mike: My name is Mike Nelson. My job, underwater research. In fifteen years of diving, I've had my share of fun and danger. I've had all kinds of playmates. Friendly... and unfriendly. But the most deadly thing that I've ever encountered in the deep wasn't a shark, wasn't a stingray, and it wasn't the poisonous touch of the Portuguese Man-of-War. It was something man-made that almost destroyed a harbor, a village, and a hundred fishing boats.

    • Mike: The sea is really not a silent world, if you know how to tune in on it.

    • Mike Nelson: (speaking to the murderer) Now, you have nothing, except two men dead.
      Capt. Greg Evans: Three.

    • Mike: The island republic of Porto Santa is often called "the pearl of the Caribbean Sea." Of course, we often forget that a pearl is the disease of the oyster.

    • Mike Nelson: (Narration) I was diving in the Red Sea with my friend, Jim Barry, an archeologist. I was helping him on one of his projects. We were searching underwater for the remains of an ancient temple, which Jim felt was more than a legend. ((Pause)) Suddenly Jim's wife, Anne, tossed our slate overboard. (Long pause) The slate said, "Come up". That could mean only one thing - trouble.

    • Mike Nelson: They had no idea they were picking up a serpent killer.

    • Mike: My curiosity got the better of me. I was dying to know who these two men were and what they were up to. Before long, much sooner than I ever expected, I was to discover how little difference there was between dying to find out, and almost dying when you did find out.

    Trivia (42)

    • Mike Nelson in the opening scene of this first episode isn't wearing scuba gear, but instead a face mask with an umbilical air hose and a wet suit.

    • Goof: At the end of the episode, the boat leaves before Mike puts a replacement marker on the jet. He used the original marker line to haul up the pilot. Before ascending to the surface, Mike does retrieve a monitor camera and a pair of baby shoes. What we don't 't see is Mike placing a new marker on the jet before swimming up or the boat leaving.

    • Goof: When Mike Nelson is ferried to the rescue ship by helicopter, it can be clearly seen that it's a stunt man in the place of Lloyd Bridges in the helicopter. And when this stunt man jumps from the helicopter into the water, he is not wearing a hood for his wet suit. But when Nelson appears on the surface of the water one second later in a close up, he now has a hood on.

    • Goof: When Nelson rescues the young woman from the rip current, as he carries her to shore, he looks up and down the beach for someone that may be waiting for her. Down the beach, it looks like Florida, where the scene takes place. But up the beach, mountain cliffs can clearly be seen in the near background.

    • Goof: Jennie and Mike both at different times say she rented the boat for the entire weekend. Yet, once on the boat Jennie says she's paying by the hour before the first dive and wants to save a little money.

    • Goof: When Nelson prepares to dive without tanks to rescue Jennie, he's seen in a wide shot putting his mask down over his face as he barks orders to the boat captain to call the Coast Guard. But a second later when the shot cuts to a close up just before he dives, the mask is mysteriously back up on top of his head as he dives into the water with it still off his face. The next shot shows the mask back ON his face as he swims underwater.

    • Goof: From the moment Catherine Martin introduces herself, Mike mispronounces her last name as "Norton" instead of Martin. as seem on her identification card. Even when she uses her name in the same scene, Mike calls her by the wrong name.

    • In this episode Mike says he worked for the US Government in World World II. In the episode "Underwater Pirates" (season 4, episode 25) Mike says he served in U.S. Navy during the Korean War as part of an underwater demolition team (UDT).

    Allusions (1)

    • Mike mentions, as part of his narration, Superman (TV series and comic books). This occurs when Mike finds himself trapped in a cabin underwater, left to die by his imposter and the partner of the imposter. Mike says maybe Superman could smash his way out of this coffin with his bare hands, but "I couldn't."

  • SEA HUNT is the definitive action show of its time. Lloyd Bridges made the show what it is. It makes you yearn to go skin diving. I have a collection of all the original episodes and I like to watch them in the summer! Great show to watch on video!
