  • Episode Description
  • Jerry discovers that his apartment is infested with fleas. As it's being fumigated Elaine can't get at a manuscript she needs for a job interview, Kramer loses his sense of taste, and Jerry's obsession with hygiene gets him into his girlfriend's bad books. Meanwhile, George finds out that his girlfriend doesn't care about looks… which may be less of an insult than he originally thought.

    • Paula: (to George) You could drape yourself in velvet for all I care.

    • Newman: (to Jerry) So you have fleas. Maybe you keep your house in a state of disrepair. Maybe you live in squalor.

    • Elaine: The point, George, is she likes you. George: Oh, so what. I'd rather she hate me and thought I was good looking.

    • Jerry: See, the thing of it is, there's a lot of ugly people out there walking around but they don't know they're ugly because nobody actually tells them.

    • Jerry: (about George) When he's dead he'll be relieved.

    Notes (2)

    • In a deleted scene on the Season 6 DVD, we learn that Buford, the bulldog that chases Newman in the final scene, is the dog that gave him fleas in the first place.

    • Viewer Daniel Massey notes that Newman's apartment in this episode is 5F.

    Trivia (6)

    • Christa Miller-Lawrence who appears in this episode as Elaine's artist friend Paula, appeared as Ellen de Granmont (the woman whose material George feels) in last season's "The Sniffing Accountant". She can currently be seen as regular character Ellie Torres in Courtney Cox's new series Cougar Town.

    • From this episode on; Uncle Leo is a very minor character.

    • When Elaine goes in Jerry's apartment for the second time, you can see a bright light in the door crack. When she gets in, there is no lights on.

    • While Kramer is eating the Mackinaw peach the amount eaten varies between shots

    • Christa Miller (of Drew Carey fame) played a different character in the Sniffing Accountant. She was the woman who worked at the bra selling company and when George felt the material on her shirt she got angry with him. In that episode her name was Ellen. In this episode her name is Paula, and she's even dating George!

    Allusions (2)

    • When George wears the velvet outfit, Jerry refers to him as the "Velvet Fog". This is a nickname for Mel Torme, who incidentally, was featured in the previous episode ("The Jimmy").

    • Paula: You can drape yourself in velvet for all I care. This alludes to George's dream, as mentioned in several episodes throughout the series; that were it socially acceptable he would drape himself in velvet.
