Notes (2)

  • Despite being shown out of production order, this episode is shown in the proper continuity order. It explains how Jerry patched things up with Rachel's father after the events of "The Raincoats", and has them still dating before their break-up in "The Opposite".

  • The original script featured a line in which Kramer suggests that Elaine become a jockey. However, it never made it to production.

  • The song during the montage of Kramer at the beach is "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" by The Beach Boys.

  • Although Elaine tells George if he saw her naked, she wouldn't want to ride back in the same car with him. But, he has seen her naked (sort of).

  • This is the only episode of Season 5 that doesn't show Jerry's apartment or the coffee shop.

  • It seems odd that there is no reference in the entire episode to the couple's first child.

  • When the hosts say that it's time to come see the baby, Kramer implies that he'll be coming along with Jerry and Elaine. However, he instead goes for a swim and only later sees the baby.

Allusions (4)

Boutros Boutros-Ghali served as Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1992 to 1997 and is an Egyptian-born diplomat.

  • When Elaine comes to the sundeck in an oversized hat and an ankle length sundress, Jerry says "And then there's Maude", a reference to the show Maude, about a New York liberal activist and famous for her flowing, unrevealing wardrobe.

  • The line "This is weird wild stuff" is a catchphrase that Dana Carvey used for his impression of Johnny Carson on Saturday Night Live.

  • Elaine: "Tell us more, Mr. Science". This is a reference to "Mr. Science", a recurring segment on Bob & Ray.
