  • Jerry: (after Kramer tackles Monica Seles) Thus ends the great ball man experiment.

  • Ball Boy: Hey pops, isn't there a better way to spend your twilight years? Kramer: I may be old, but I'm spry.

  • Jerry: So she sees you with hot fudge on your face and she ends it? Do you really think she'd be that superficial? George: Why not? I would be.

  • Jerry: (to Kramer) You want to be a ball man? Go ahead and break the ball barrier.

  • George: You're giving me the "it's not you, it's me" routine? I invented "it's not you, it's me." Nobody tells me it's them, not me. If it's anybody, it's me. Gwen: All right, George, it's you. George: You're damn right it's me.

  • Newman: (to Jerry) Alright... alright, you go ahead... You go ahead, you keep your secret... But you remember this: when you control the mail, you control... information.

Notes (4)

  • Marlee Matlin (Laura) received the "And" credit.

  • The script said that Jerry and George mumbled their lines in front of Laura at the restaurant. Jerry (the actor) and Jason Alexander decided to place objects in front of their face to hide their lips.

  • This episode was nominated for the 1994 Eddie Award for Best Edited Half Hour Series for Television. Marlee Matlin was nominated for the 1994 Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for playing "Laura" in this episode.

  • When George is on TV eating the ice cream, Larry David is the voice of the second announcer. He says "Hey buddy they've got a new invention, it's called a napkin." He is also the voice of the dispatcher that tells the limo driver he's to pick up Tom Hanks. Both uncredited.

Trivia (9)

  • The episode starts on what is said to be Friday (according to Elaine's co-worker). Then it's Saturday (with Jerry, George, and Laura at the restaurant). The next day is Todd's party, which is said to take place on a Friday.

  • When George and Jerry are hiding their mouths from Laura to discuss using her lip reading ability, George locks his hands and lifts his arms to block her view. Strangely, only Jerry and the viewing audience are blocked from seeing his mouth move. From Laura's angle, she can clearly see it.

  • During the ending credits, Kramer is the ballboy…man. He is sitting right next to the net. However, in the very next scene, it shows the whole court, NOT showing Kramer! This only means that it was just a videotape they showed.

  • We are meant to believe that Laura (Marlee Matlin) misread "sweep together" as "sleep together", but she didn't. She correctly signs "sweep" (a vertical palm sweeping across a horizontal palm). The mistake couldn't have been Kramer's either, since it was supposed to be a lip-reading mistake, not a sign-reading mistake (the signs for "sweep" and "sleep" could never be confused).

  • When Newman is saying that "when you control the mail, you control information" thing to Jerry, you can see that Jerry laughs (altough he's giving his back to the camera)

  • If the U.S. Open tennis tournament is going on, the time of year would be late August into early September (championship matches are played Labor Day weekend). The Metallica reference is made probably to emphasize that Elaine gave the driver tickets to a band that played very LOUD.

  • In the beginning of the episode, when Jerry and George are at the tennis match, one of the players scores, and we hear applause. The camera then shows the entire crowd on the side that Jerry and George are on. None of these people are applauding, however.

  • In the restaurant, Laura notices that a couple is breaking up. George asks how she knows, as if he does not yet know she reads lips. If he didn't know, why was he just seconds before speaking to this deaf woman about a lack of napkins at the concession stands?!
