    • Jodi: Well, he did send you that postcard. Kate: And all it said was "piece"—not war and…Oh, no, no, no. P-I-e-c-e—as in pie. Jodi: As in—ass. I remember. (Kate and Jodi are talking about how Kate's former boyfriend, Marshall, broke up with her.)

    • (A waiter has just placed a cocktail drink in front of Kate.) Ben: If I go to the can now, will you still be here when I get back? Kate: Not if he starts sending shooters.

    • Toni: It reads like you're watching animals mate in captivity. Ok, I've got to go. You stay and have a few drinks on me, ok? Maybe you two should just get drunk and screw. Might heat up the prose. (Toni talking to Kate and Ben about the draft chapters they gave her.)

    • Kate: He's a what? Ben: A porpoise-poker. Kate: You mean, like...Dolphins? Ben: Dolphins, porpoises--I don't think he's fussy. (Ben explaining to Kate why he told Joe that his sex story was not an appropriate case study for their book)

    • "Marriage is overrated--just find somebody you can't stand and give them your house--saves the lawyer's fees." (Ben speaking to Kate over drinks at a bar)
