  • show Description
  • Welcome to the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes guide at TV.com. The BBC commissioned a new series of adaptations in 1968. One of first British television shows to be broadcast in colour, it starred Peter Cushing, who had played Holmes in Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), as the celebrated detective, with Nigel Stock, who had played his friend and associate Dr Watson in Sherlock Holmes (1965), reprised the role. Unfortunately, only six of the these episodes survive. They were released on DVD in 2004.moreless

    • Holmes: The theories which I have expressed, and which appear to you to be so chimerical, are really extremely practical - so practical that I depend upon them for my bread and cheese.

    • Holmes: I've found it. I've found it. I have found a re-agent which is precipitated by haemoglobin, and by nothing else.

  • Peter Cushing and Nigel Stock play their parts of Holmes and Watson in a very convincing way.
