  • show Description
  • Small Wonder was a sci-fi sitcom about a family who has a robot daughter. Ted Lawson, an engineer at a huge robotics firm, brings home a project that he is working on: a robot in the shape of a 10-year-old girl. The robot was a Voice Input Child Indenticant (V.I.C.I.), but was nicknamed Vicki for short. Not only did she brighten up Ted's wife Joan, but also was a great sister to their only child Jamie Lawson. They tried to keep the fact that Vicki was a robot from the entire world, but found it difficult when their neighbors, The Brindles, started snooping around the house. What the bad part was, Brandon Brindle, the head of the Brindle family, was Ted's boss and he does his best to lie, cheat, and steal to get him further up the corporate ladder. His wife, Bonnie, was no better than he was, and his bratty daughter Harriet had a killer crush on Jamie. Jamie, however, would rather play with Reggie, his best friend and confidant than to have Harriet chase him everywhere. Jamie also tried to teach Vicki how to be a normal kid, but all she could do is mimic people and do things literally. Vicki also had an evil side to her named Vanessa, who was smart-mouthed, conniving and treacherous at times. But other than that, the Lawsons enjoyed four years of living with a robot and no one outside the family was ever the wiser, not even the ever-nosy Brindles. Small Wonder ran in syndication from 1985 to 1989 and was a ratings hit. There were talks of doing a spin-off series dedicated to Vanessa named Too Good to Be True but it died in the planning stages. Theme Song: She's a small wonder Pretty and bright with soft curls She's a small wonder A girl unlike other girls She's a miracle, and I grant you, she'll enchant you at first sight She's a small wonder And she'll make your heart take flight She's fantastic, made of plastic Microchips here and there She's a small wonder, Brings love and laughter everywhere!moreless

    • Joan: Dinner is'nt ready yet.
      Ted: Dinner?
Joan: That thing we do every night at the table that gets all the dishes dirty.

    • Joan: Oh, the coffee just has a bit more to drip.
Jamie: Speaking of drips,(Sees Harriet at the window) our neighbor, peeping Harriet is at it again. (Closes the kitchen window blinds)
      Joan: Jamie.
Ted: Honey, he's right. You know we have to be very careful. If Harriet's father ever found out about Vicki I could have a real problem.
Joan: Well do you think that Mr. Brindle would really give you trouble at the office?
Ted: Does Elizabeth Taylor know the Wedding March?

    • Ted: (To Vicki) Okay repeat after me. Testing 1,2,3. Testing 1,2,3.
Vicki: (Sped up voice) Testing 1,2,3. Testing 1,2,3.
Jamie: Dad, you turned her into a chipmunk!

    • Ted: Needle nose.
      Jamie: What?
      Ted: Pliers, needle nose pliers.
Jamie: Oh, I thought you said I had a needle nose.

    • Harriet: (Knocks on the back door) Jamie, Vicki open up. It's me, Harriet.
      Jamie: Shhh.
      Vicki: Shhh.
Harriet: No sense in pretending you're not there. I hear breathing!
      Jamie: That little pest!

    • Jamie: Why can't I be alone? What do you think I'm gonna do? Dye my hair green? Cook my goldfish in the microwave?
Ted: Those thoughts never crossed our minds.
      Joan: Until now.

    • Jamie: Mom, dad, you know that squeak Vicki had in her neck? Well, I fixed it. Watch, go ahead Vicki do it. (Vicki's head spins around)
Joan: Oh Jamie, I wish you wouldn't do that.
      Jamie: Why?
Joan: Well it must hurt her.
Ted: Joanie, Joanie, honey a robot can't hurt and you've got to stop thinking of her as real child.
Joan: I'll try, but it's not easy.
Ted: Okay Vicki, go to your cabinet.
      Vicki: Go to my cabinet.
Joan: Do we really have to keep her in that box? It's so dark in there. (Ted gives Joan a look to make her stop thinking of Vicki as a child) Okay, I'll try harder.

    • Ted: Okay, Vicki, get in your cabinet.
Vicki: (warped voice) Get in my cabinet.
Ted: Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Say that again.
Vicki: (warped voice) Get in my cabinet.
Ted: What's wrong with your voice?
Vicki: (warped voice) My circuits are wet.
Ted: (looks at Jamie suspiciously) Jamie?
Jamie: Well...I sorta gave her a taste of my chocolate milkshake.
Ted: How could you do such a dumb thing? And besides, you know how we feel about you having those sweets.
Joan: (to Ted) Oh now, now, don't be too angry. Uh..look on the bright side,..uh..robots can't get cavities.
