  • Quotes (4)

    • Burt: What's the matter with this whole family? I'm here waiting for visitors from Mars. They're all home performing an exorcism on my nephew because he's possessed. Nice group.

    • Jessica: (to the Devil) You have come to the wrong house!

    • (The Devil levitates Jodie) Bob: Look at that! A fruit fly!

    • Chester: I love it! Scientific facts from the impotent, invisible loon. Burt: I'd rather be a loon than an embezzling, lecherous killer. I'm sure around you the Devil feels right at home.

    Notes (3)

    • In its second season, Soap earned Emmy nominations for Best Direction (Jay Sandrich, Episode 27), Best Actress (Katherine Helmond), and Best Supporting Actor (Robert Guillaume). Robert Guillaume won his Emmy just as ABC was launching his spin-off series, Benson, which would run for seven seasons, during which time Robert Guillaume would win another Emmy, this time for Best Lead Actor, for his work.

    • Soap was ranked 19th in the 1978-79 television ratings.

    • This episode was season 2 finale

    Trivia (2)

    • Look closely and you can see the strings attached to Billy Crystal.

    • The episode's next-to-last scene, in which Jessica chooses between Chester and Donohue, clearly takes place the day AFTER the dramatic exorcism. But then, the show's final scene, when Burt disappears into the light, takes place, according to Burt, during the exorcism, the night before.
