    Notes (5)

    • This would be Benson's last apperance in the series.

    • Soap was honored with four major Emmy nominations for its very strong third season: Best Comedy Series, Best Actor (Richard Mulligan), and Best Actress (Cathryn Damon and Katherine Helmond). Richard Mulligan and Cathryn Damon took home trophies for their work as onscreen spouses Burt and Mary, who suffered calamities of cosmic proportions in 1979-80. However, Richard Mulligan and Cathryn Damon were not present to accept their awards, which were handed out in a telecast scheduled during a lengthy and rancorous Screen Actors Guild strike. Cathryn Damon passed away in 1987. In 1989, when Richard Mulligan made another trip to the stage after winning a Best Actor Emmy for "Empty Nest," he made a point of acknowledging Cathryn Damon--"Toots," as he called her--and thanked her for her support and collaboration on "Soap" nearly ten years after it had come to an end.

    • Soap was ranked 25th in the 1979-80 television ratings.

    • This episode marks the third-season finale.

    • This episode was an hour-long episode (now shown in two parts in syndication).

    Trivia (1)
