  • show Description
  • Based on a Christmas card by the now-producers, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, called "The Spirit of Christmas"; South Park is a show about four boys; Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, and Kenny McCormick. These four little fourth graders live in one messed up town. From talking poo to un-dead celebrities, to a mystical land of imagination, they see it all. All there is to say, is that... No one is safe. Black, white, Jewish, Christian, Scientologist, and everything in between, this show covers it all, and makes light of just about everything.moreless

    Notes (742)

    • This Episode marks the first apearance of Butters, but only as and extra.

    • This was the First episode of South Park that was made.

    • This was the second episode of South Park that was Made.

    • Kenny Dies in this "Short" when a statue thrown by Jay Leno lands on his head and flattens it.

    • This Is the First "Short" made out of the very few there were. it was made just before production of the "Terrance and Phillip" Episode for Season 2.

    • This 2 minute short was aired on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

    • This short is on disc three of the Season 1 DVD collection.

    • ANIMATIONS AND DIFFERENT THINGS: The drawing is more primitive, but more detailed. The characters are recognizable. Cartman's original cap was not sky-blue with yellow puff and trim, but sky-blue with sky-blue puff and grey trim. Stan's cap was not blue with red puff and trim, but red with purple puff and trim. Kyle's cap was not a bright green duck cap with green flaps, but a yellow baseball cap with orange visor. Kenny's mouth is visible. In the concluding dialogue between Boy 1 and Boy 2, Boy 2 draws the conclusion about Christmas, not Boy 1.

    Trivia (1900)

    • This is the first time they remarked Kenny dying every episode. Jay Leno points it out.

    • Kenny talks in this pilot but 3 years later in "Jesus vs Santa" he doesn't.

    • When Jesus throws the fireball at Santa it hits Santas shoulder dead on, then goes right through it, but Santa shows nothing that would indicate that it hit him, infering that the fireball was not intended to hit Santa.

    • Cartman was originally named Kenny in this episode, and Kenny never actually had a name, neither did Stan and Kyle.

    • Jesus' halo is missing throughout the entire episode.

    • When Wendy's head is shown front, her hair is long. When her head is showing left or right, her hair is little bit shorter. Response: This is probably because this episode was made out of construction paper, and almost everything in the episode looks slightly different.

    • Sometimes when Santa is spinning Jesus, Jesus's goatee is there, but sometimes, the goatee is not there, and sometime the goatee is there. In another words, his goatee keeps dissappearing when Santa is spinning Jesus.

    • Every time Jesus talks to the boys after his fight with Santa, his body turns with his head, so you see his left arm in two places - to his side, as part of the body, and still placed on Jesus, across the body.

    Allusions (1235)

    • During the fight, a Mortal Kombat 3 tune plays.

    • The introductory music is from "It Happened in Sun Valley", in the Twentieth Century-Fox Picture "Sun Valley Serenade". Lyric by Mack Gordon Music by Harry Warren

    • The scene when the statue falls on the children is very much like the scene at the end of Monty Python… opening credits in which the giant foot squishes the chicken-man. They both have very similar squishing sound as well.

    • Goldfinger: The way Jesus killed Frosty with his halo chopping off Frosty's head is similar to Oddjob's killing technique in the classic James Bond movie. Oddjob was a hitman who threw his hat at targets which would chop their heads off.

    • Santa's quote "There can be only one." is a quote used by TV character Duncan MacLeod on the Highlander series. Every time an immortal kills another, he adds the other's power to his own with that statement.

    • When Randy is training using a similar style that Rocky used, the song that sounds like the Rocky theme song is in fact 'Your'e The Best' by Joe Esposito.

    • Scott Baio
Toward the end of the episode, Cartman accuses Scott Baio of giving him pinkeye. Baio is best known for his role as Fonzie's little brother on Happy Days.

    • Tex Avery:
The song "I Love to Singa" which Cartman sings when the aliens take control of his body is from the 1936 Tex Avery cartoon of the same name.
