The boys go to their first Professional Wrestling performance and get inspired to wrestle. Eventually they form there own professional group and start staging events in their backyard complete with riser seating.
Great send up of the many myriad versions of the performance based wrestling federations. A very popular "sport", most people are aware that these "matches" are nothing more than staged entertainment.
Sometimes it amazes me how easily this show and these characters can be used to really blast a certain group or activity.
I especially enjoyed the boys reaction to the actual sport of Greco Roman Wrestling and what they thought of the coach. Very funny bits and the emoting from the coach at the end gets him a contract with Vince McMahon.
The boys come up with some outlandish storylines for their wrestling matches and it is very funny to see the crowd get into the characters. Cartman playing a pregnant women who is addicted to abortions! Unbelievable!
Not the greatest episode, but an enjoyable one all the same. Thanks for reading...moreless
As a wrestling fan...I was let down.
I'm a huge wrestling fan so when I heard South Park was doing an episode based on wrestling I was excited. Now I understand South Park takes shots at everyone and pulls no punches. BUT They went the opposite they should have. They were at least fair to wrestling fans and didn't make them out to be hicks or anything (though some were and the fat chick at the WWE event was VERY true I've seen at least 3 myself) But making the whole thing out to be a play was just an insult to my intelligence. Besides they could have made an episode about the insane super violent backyard wrestling. Instead we got a poorly written intellgence insulting episode that is one of south park's weakest (REALLY... they couldn't have at least put an effort in to make Vince McMahon sound constipated? Jokes like that more or less write themselves) and Cartman the wrestling booker..makes Vince Russo look like Paul Heymen. I really wanted to love this episode but as a wrestling fan it insulted my intelligence and felt they could have gone several ways they didn't.moreless
The boys go to a WWE event and soon want to become wrestlers, but when they sign up for wrestling at school, they learn that the wrestling is different than what they saw. They still aspire to become wrestlers though, will their dreams come true?
Good episode. It started off kind of slowly but by the end of the episode I enjoyed pretty much the whole episode. Pretty funny, the way the boys staged their lines, and the fact that all those people fell for the lines (you'd have to watch to see why it was funny) made this a great episode, for the most part. So, my final grade for this episode is a Bmoreless
Wrestling is gay and professional "wrestling" is nothing but a huge soap opera.
Excellent episode that mirrored my views on both wrestling and "wrestling". Funny from start to finish. The boys, inspired by Pro Wrestling, decide to take up wrestling in their school - only to realize that wrestling (the Olympic sport) isn't really what they thought it would be. What follows is a hilarious parody on both - the gayness of wrestling, and the "un-sportiness" of pro-wrestling. Never before have I seen pro-wrestling made to look so silly as this episode does. The second half of this season definitely looks to be one of the better half-seasons in recent years, and this episode does not disappoint at all.moreless
I dont get the low rating at all. This was a fun and hilarious episode.
This episode was the pure classic example of kids being kids. The South Park kids put on their own wrestling show with some semi-awareness of the over-dramatization and fakeness that comes with it and it gains an audience of people that take this stuff seriously. I love how as the episode progressed, the wrestling matches slowly became more like theater performances. The performances were getting more and more ridiculous by the second and I couldnt stop laughing even with Cartman dressing up as a woman who claimed to have gotten 14 abortions! XD Definitly an underrated episode. This was funny and well written from beginning to end.moreless
The boys attend a WWE wrestling event, but it isn't real "wrassling."
When the boys want to become wrestlers, the realize that real wrestling is not the cool jumping off the ropes acting that they originally saw. After thinking their teacher is a gay porn loving child molester, they boys decide to make the "Wrestling Takedown Federation." They draw the attention of rednecks who believe that WWE is real and attend their shows. They then receive a letter stating that Vince McMahon is going to attend their show for recruitment. The whole idea of this episode is based off the fact that the WWE is completely fake, and is more so a soap opera than wrestling. I found this to be very clever, and maybe somewhat obvious of a target. I was played out well though. While the episode wasn't gut bustingly hilarious, it had it's very funny moments. The Chorus Line spoof scene was the best, especially when the guy acts out talking to a middle Eastern terrorist. Also, we get a great Kenny death.
With a clever storyline surrounded by genuinely funny moments, W.T.F. is a great episode. Mind you, I thought this episode was mediocre upon the first initial viewing, but now I appreciate it more and enjoy wholeheartedly. A good addition to the season.moreless
I was very impressed with the episode as it made me nostalgic and think about playing wrestling on the couches and trampolines with my buddies. I loved the "they took our jobs" integration.
I was very impressed with the episode. It made me nostalgic and think about playing wrestling on the couches and trampolines with my buddies. I would have thought this episode would have been appropriate a few years back, though I had to remember that South Park has a new audience to cater to. Back when South Park started was the time when wrestling was popular for my friends.
I loved the "they took our jobs" integration, and feel that the guys have gotten off to a great start this season. The first half of last season in my opinion was their worst. The giant hamsters optimized that. I just hpe the can keep rolling.moreless
The boys get into wrestling.
The boys come out of watching a WWE or WWF tournament (whatever it's called, I don’t care to remember) and find themselves in love with wrestling. However, they soon discover that "real" wrestling, such as that taught at their school is not the same as what they've seen with men and tightropes. In fact they accuse their teacher of being gay when he tries to show them the starting wrestling "position". Sadly, the kids aren't the only kids to say this. It's a funny episode overall, but I have a hard time when even the main characters don't realize all that's wrong with whatever is going on (and they usually do). Also, there's not much to teach us in this episode, as South Park usually has some moral at the end. Maybe it’s just we should avoid wrestling in all forms. Either way, it made me laugh, but very seldom.moreless
oh wow this episode was one of the funniest ive seen in awhile lol
Everything about this episode was hilarious. I espeically love the sarcasm when they say someone is a good wrestler. "Damn that is some badass wrestling" after the dude sings and dances. It also hit home by reminding me how big wrestling was in my childhood. Reminded me of my friends and i wrestling after school. The best part of all was all the people in south park getting into the W.T.F and the constant "shhh" lol this episode was just genious and i was worried after that dead celebrities episode but i have faith that the rest of the season will be awesome.moreless
South Park Brings us a par for the course but still very enjoyable episode.
Nothing too hilarious here, but this episode was well done and parodied.
Most people already know most WWE stuff at least (having not seen outside it I can't say all of these types) are really actors who also work out in order to pull off the movies in the matches.
It's a big soap opera only with a more male lean and volence. and in that respect it was extremely well done.
the Teacher's stuff while written well with the other characters however, the teacher himself was a tad too over the top for me to find funny, but the stuff with him is still not put to waste as it still is decent in being a comment to how or why most don't like or care about real Wrestlers.
Good episode for the season not the worst and not the best, it's just an average one that gets funnier the more Wrestling fans react like the characters in the episode did about calling it fake or acting.moreless
