Notes (3)

  • FYI: A mung is a small round green bean that is actually the source of bean sprouts rather than "the stuff that comes out when you push on a pregnant lady's stomach" as referred to by the kids from NYC in this episode. [ Editor's note: According to Wikipedia this episode was the source of an urban legend, more info in the Derivative and Alternate Meanings section of their entry on mung. ]

  • This was the only episode (so far) to receive an 18 rating in the UK during it's original home video release in 2000. (Due to the molestation subplot). However, it was later re-rated 15 when re-released on DVD in 2008.

  • An alternate title to this episode is "The Brown Noise."

Trivia (10)

  • Despite the boys running up to the stage, Stan's hat can be seen right next to Mr. Garrison.

  • When the bus is leaving for South Park, if you look closely, you'll see Kenny in the top-right corner, but Kenny died earlier in the episode by "Crapping himself to Death"

  • When the South Park kids first arrive in Arkansas, and are told by the lady with the headset to 'go over there by the New York kids', as they're approaching them, you can see the ground is smeared with poop stains, as it will be later in the episode, when everyone 'craps their pants'.

  • On the first promo of the recorder concert at the beginning of the episode, the location of the concert is announced to be live in Oklahoma City. However, Mr. Mackey announced to the kids that the event has been moved to Arkansas. Later in the episode, the promo aired again and still announces that the event is live in Oklahoma City, even though the concert is in Arkansas.

  • Ms.Crabtree has finally earned some respect. When she talks the kids listen to her.

  • When the boys are arguing with the New York kids, the one with the wife beater and jeans says, "You guys are even stupider than I thought!" His voice is much squeakier than it was before. Then when he says, "Mung is so a word," his voice is back to normal.

  • There is no way that there are enough hotels in the Arkansas area to accommodate 4 million people. Even if 1,000 fit in one hotel, there would still have to be 4,000 vacant hotels.

  • They forgot Mr. Mackey, he wasn't in the bus in the final shot.

Allusions (3)

  • Cartman: "They should bring Chicago Hope back?" Chicago Hope was a medical procedure drama that focused on the personal and professional trials of the staff at the hospital "Chicago Hope" the series ended on May 2000. Cartman's reference comes 4 months before the airing of the final episode.

  • FOX: In the very beginning of the episode it says "POX presents…" This is obviously an allusion of the FOX network.

  • Peter Pan: Mr. Garrison: Second star to the right, then straight on 'till morning. Mr. Garrison says this at the end of this episode when he's asked where to go by the bus driver. This is the same line spoken in J.M. Barrie's 1904 play "Peter Pan." This line, or variations of it, have been spoken in a number of subsequent productions, such as by Captain Kirk in 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country a film bounding with literary references. In fact, Mr. Garrison's use of the line most closely resembles Captain Kirk's; Kirk said it when he was asked where to navigate the Enterprise, much like how Garrison was asked where to take the bus. It even has the bus disappearing into the horizon leaving only a shining "star" light thing just like in Star Trek VI, though in Star Trek VI the Enterprise was covered in the light of a nearby star.
