  • show Description
  • This series is a spin off of the Spider-man show in 1994. Hijacking a space shuttle to save John Jameson, who crash-landed on another planet as the result of Venom and Carnage attacking his ship during its flight into space, Spider-Man ends up stranded on Counter-Earth, an Earth-like planet in the same orbit on the other side of the sun. On Counter-Earth, he finds a high-tech society where humanoid animals, also known as beastials, rule under the leadership of the High Evolutionary, while humans, the minorities, are seen as second class citizens and must be "tagged" with tracking devices that prevent them from attempting to rebel against the beastials. If that wasn't bad enough, Venom and Carnage are about, having their minds set on global domintation through the help of the Synoptic - a hivemind producing spores that turn people into its mindless slaves. This series ended on a cliffhanger, as Marvel's bankruptcy brought the show to an unexpected end after the first season. Six episodes were produced for the second season, including a conclusion to the first season's finale (which was intended to be a multi-part episode), but never aired. There are currently no plans for a home video release, although Disney has acquired the rights to air and release episodes of the series.moreless

    • Spider-Man: (After knocking down Carnage and Venom) I'm impressed! Snazzy new powers, AND a new vocabulary to match!

    • J. Jonah Jameson: (about John Jameson) That's my son. Here that, Parker? I've always said John was a hero, haven't I? Peter: You sure have Jonah. About 50 times in the last minute.

    • Guard: Stop Spider-Man, surrender! Spider-Man: Sorry gentlemen, I don't do "surrender."

    • Spider-Man: (Commenting on the Revolutionary's Secret Headquarters) Nice, very nice! It could use some tracklighting, some plants... maybe a throw-rug or two?

    • Spider-Man: (After Spider-Man looks down the sewer) Just once why can't I meet a woman who lives in a penthouse?

    • Karen: You had some nice moves back there Spider-Man... For a guy who dresses like a bug. Spider-Man:: Ouch. Usually women don't critisize my fashion sense until at least the first date.

    • Spider-Man: Excuse me! I hate to intrude but..interrupted by Knights firing at them)...Can this thing go any faster!?

    • Spider-Man: I think you guys might want to keep an eye on Ol' Bromley. Just a hunch, when you got someone wound that tight who wears a coat full of explosives..

    Notes (86)

    • Stan Lee is not listed in the credits. Stan normally co-produces each animated series with Avi Arid.

    • The theme song for Spider-Man played in this episode. Meaning that this could in fact be a sequel.

    • This is Mary Jane's only appearance.

    • What is the counter earth? The Counter-Earth, is an Earth like planet in the same orbit on other side of the sun.

    • This and an Avengers series where both airing on the Fox Box program.

    • Rino Ramano takes on the role of Spiderman that was previously played by Christopher Daniel Barnes on the Spider-man series that airs on ABC family.

    • This two-part episode was also released in comic book form, with the same storyline, by "Marvel Animated."

    Trivia (19)

    • When the last Spider-Man series ended, Spiderman left to find Mary Jane. In the pilot for this Spider-Man series, which hypothetically takes place after the last series, Mary Jane is home and well. It was never explained how Spider-Man found Mary Jane or where she was.

    • Venom and Carnage appear in the episode. Although, if this is a sequel to the '94 Spider-Man series, then it is never explained how they escaped from the portal they were trapped in.

    • As Spidey is explaining to John Jameson that he can't kill the beastials, it shows John with his head resting on the gun, with on eye closed, and the other eye looking through the scope of the gun. Suddenly, after Spidey says something compelling about not killing, It shows John Jameson's face with both eyes open, head non-angled and no gun in sight, then it suddenly shifts back to him holding the gun.

    • The Daily Byte is similiar to The Daily Bugle. This is probably the parallel, Counter-Earth version of the newspaper company from back on Earth, in New York.

    • After Spidey catches the camera from falling and mentions that he can get 5000 dollars for these pictures, he passes by a sign that says "10,000 Reward: Spider-Man Pictures!" Hmmm..

    • As Naoko opens the door, she finds a weakened John Jameson who collapses upon her at first sight. As she is holding him up, we see his right arm with no eclipse moon shape brand, yet in every other episode, he has it. It is also ironic that he doesn't have it in this episode, yet in the next episode it focuses on the brand.

    • Early in the episode, Spider-Man runs out of webfluid for his webshooters. After morphing into his costume, Spider-Man grabs one web-cartidge, and loads it in his right arm. However, not once does it show him load another web cartridge in the other arm, yet throughout the episode both arms shoot webs.

    • After meeting with three of the Knights of Wondergor, he places a spider-tracker on the back of Lady Vermin's Hovercraft. However, not once elsewhere in the episode is the tracker mentioned, nor did it serve a purpose, as they end up working together.

    Allusions (10)

    • Mary Jane has been home for a while. If this was a sequel, then MJ had to have been home for a while, enough for him to confess his alter-ego, propose, then get an apartment.

    • Another comparison to Batman Beyond: Spider-Man is transported to a world that is much more advanced technologically than his home of Earth, but is also a police state patrolled by heavily-armed law enforcement that are meant to challenge the dangers posed by loose cannons in society.

    • Batman Beyond: In addition to his trademark powers, Spider-man also possesses a suit composed of state-of-the-art technology, including spider-stingers, invisibility, and a built-in sonic weapon. This suit is very similiar to the one in Batman Beyond which aired during the same time period.

    • It may be an inside joke that the voice actor who plays Lady Vermin(who is attracted to Spider-Man), also played Mary-Jane in the first episode.

    • Oddly enough, Counter-Earth's Green Goblin's alter-ego is named Barry Norman Osborn, with no relation to the original Osborn. Edit: What are you talking about? Edit: It seems that the Green Goblin's real name is Barry Norman Osborn. Google it and you'll see enough sources to back it up.

    • Machine Man There is a character owned by Marvel called Machine Man, aka X-51. This is possibly the source of the robot's name in SMU. The similiarites end there, because Machine Man is a human-cyborg and X-51 is purely a robot.

    • The storyline of a robot who won't kill anymore and who wants to find his own way was done one year earlier. This storyline is similar to an episode of Batman Beyond that aired in 2000 called, "Zeta". The episode was about a robot who gains feelings and wants to stop doing what he's doing, so runs away from the people who created him. Zeta and X-51 share very similar interest, and look similar in a way. Edit: Actually, this episode was produced before the episode pf Batman Beyond. "Zeta" aired first because of Spider-Man Unlimited being canceled and delayed.

    • Steel Cold Heart This episode's title is almost the same as the Batman: TAS "Heart of Steel" story, which features the supercomputer AI Hardac.
