  • Episode Description
  • Krab Borg: After watching a horror movie, the next day at work SpongeBob thinks that Mr. Krabs is a robot. SpongeBob soon convinces Squidward that Mr. Krabs is a robot, and the two think that robots are going to take over the entire sea. Then they both question Mr. Krabs, and try to make him admit that he is a robot. Finally they realize the truth, which is just how the movie ended. Rock-A-Bye Bivalve: SpongeBob and Patrick find an abandoned clam and decide to take care of it. But they don't realize the responsibility they are giving themselves (mostly Patrick, who won't help SpongeBob).moreless

    • Squidward: Uhh, SpongeBob, how did that movie of yours end?
SpongeBob: The movie? Oh, yeah! The ending was great! Turns out there weren't any robots after all. It was just their...imagination. Hey it's time to feed Gary. (runs off)

    • Squidward:: SpongeBob, uhh, that's a blender.
SpongeBob: Yeah, but I saw Mr. Krabs talking with his radio before. He called it his "little buddy."
Squidward: Oh, really? Put it on the table, SpongeBob.
Mr. Krabs: You're going to interrogate my blender? You're crazy.

    • SpongeBob: This is one stubborn robot.
Mr. Krabs: WHAT!? YOU THINK I'M A ROBOT!?!?
Squidward: We don't think, we know.

    • SpongeBob: Oh, Squidward, seeing you slap Mr. Krabs like that is just too horrible to watch!
Squidward: No, that's not Mr. Krabs. That's Robot Krabs.
      SpongeBob: Oh, yeah.

    • Squidward: They poop on the robot?

    Notes (23)

    • Rodney Bingenheimer is billed as Special Guest Star.

    • The episode "Rock-A-Bye Bivalve" spawned the famous myth that SpongeBob was gay. This was later denied by Stephen Hillenburg, who stated that he was asexual. Also. in "Truth or Square" there was a marriage scene with SpongeBob and Sandy and even though it was a play there are small hints in the show in certain episodes where SpongeBob may like Sandy.

    • This is Junior's first appearance in the series.

    • We learn that SpongeBob and Squidward think that Mr. Krabs is a robot.

    • In "Rock-A-Bye Bivalve", this is the second episode to only have a few characters since the episode, "Survival of the Idiots/Dumped."

    Trivia (29)

    • Even though Patrick is the dad, he should be the one staying home and taking care of Junior as SpongeBob has a job at the Krusty Krab.

    • This is the most controversial series episode due to having an innuendo of SpongeBob and Patrick as a gay couple, so because of that, Patrick's quote "let's have another one" was censored out on some airings.

    • The first time this episode was aired, the interrogation music was different (or maybe not even there at all). The music didn't appear until about 2004.

    • When SpongeBob said that he and Squidward had to "get the poop on the robot," he probably meant that they had to "get the dope on the robot," which meant that they were going after information.

    • After Patrick comes home at 12:00am and says he was at a party, where did he get the lampshade from, seeing as he worked at his house and only a TV and a couch are down there?

    Allusions (3)

    • Episode Title: Rock-a-bye Bivalve This is an allusion to a saying to get a baby to sleep, "Rock-a-bye baby."

    • SpongeBob: Gary, if you were a robot, you would tell me, right? This is a reference from the South Park movie. Cartman asks his mom after seeing a German sick fetish video with her in it, " Mom, if you were in a German sick fetish video, you would tell me, right?"

    • Worm: We will bury you! This was Russian premier Nikita Krushchev's motto during the cold war in the 1950's.
