  • Kahanamoku Cove is a reference to famous surfer Duke Kahanamoku, considered the father of modern surfing.

  • Cast Away Some of the scenes of this episode resembles to Cast Away: The way how the gang gets stranded is similar to how Chuck got lost in a island. Mr. Krabs and his register Cashy on a wooden raft resembles to Chuck and Wilson's escape raft. Except that Chuck lost Wilson and never got it back. And Jack Kahuna Laguna resembles to Chuck with his yellow hair and beard.

  • Twitch is a reference to the Holes character of the same name.

  • The Dutchman Triangle is a parody of the Bermuda Triangle.

  • The song in the background when the other guys on the island teaches them how to surf is a reference to the song "Surfin' Bird."

  • SpongeBob vs. The Big One: DVD Commentary On the DVD of SpongeBob Vs. The Big One, there is a commentary performed by Plankton in a home theater.
