  • Trivia & Quotes

    • Kira: (angry) I don't care who you are or what your name is! Riker: Look, I'm sorry I lied to you and about using you. But it was an operational necessity. You were a resistance fighter. You know sometimes you have to do things that you're not proud of in order to accomplish the mission. Kira: Well, you've accomplished your mission, so now what? Everyone's going to be looking for you: The Cardassians and Starfleet. How far do you think you're going to get? Riker: (confidently) A lot farther than anyone anticipates.

    • Kira: If you make a run for it, that ship out there is going to see our neutrino signature go through a phase shift and then they're going to call their nine friends and you're going to have a small fleet chasing you all the way to Orias. Riker: They can chase me all they want... as long as they don't catch me.

    • Riker: Maybe we're just different kinds of terrorists. Kira: No, you're trying to be a hero... and terrorists don't get to be heroes.

    Notes (10)

    • Tricia O'Neil (Kolinas) played the role of Dr. Kurak on The Next Generation episode "Suspicions" and Captain Rachel Garrett on "Yesterday's Enterprise", also on TNG.

    • Shannon Cochran (Kalita) played the same character on The Next Generation episode "Pre-emptive Strike". She would also later play Sirella in the DS9 episodes "You Are Cordially Invited..." and "Penumbra".

    • In early scripts of this episode, Tom Riker was said to be the overall leader of the Maquis. That was intended to explain the growing success of the movement.

    • This episode aired during the same week that the movie Star Trek: Generations was released in theaters. Jonathan Frakes' special guest appearance was to promote the movie.

    • This was the first guest appearance of any The Next Generation regular actor after that series ended.

    Trivia (4)

    • This episode was likely written to keep the premise of the Maquis fresh in viewers' minds to help prepare them for the opening scene of the upcoming Voyager pilot, "Caretaker." It was also the last time the Maquis were featured prominently on Deep Space Nine until Season 4's "For the Cause."

    • After the Defiant's first brush with the Cardassians and the damage report, Tom Riker calls the Defiant a "tough, little ship." Jonathan Frakes, (this time as Will Riker) would describe the Defiant the same way during Star Trek: First Contact.

    • This episode marks the first mention of the Detapa Council.

    • Goof: When Tom Riker and Kira are talking on the Defiant bridge, Tom unsuccessfully accesses the computer using his right hand. But in his next shot he has a phaser in his right hand. Where did it come from?

    Allusions (1)

    • The Wounded
The basic plot of this episode, about a renegade Federation ship attacking Cardassian ships and stations, is very similar to "The Wounded" from The Next Generation.
