  • A Klingon legend, Kor, asks Worf for help in getting him a military command. After Martok angrily refuses to discuss the subject, Worf assigns Kor to Martok's ship as third officer. Once aboard, Kor desires one last honorable mission before he is too old.

    • Martok: How did that pompus old man hold off an entire fleet with only one ship? Worf: Does it matter?

    • Worf: (listening to Bashir and O'Brien arguing about the death of Davy Crockett) You are both wrong. The only real question is whether you believe in the legend of Davy Crockett or not. If you do, then there should be no doubt in your mind that he died a hero's death. If you do not believe in the legend, then he was just a man, and it does not matter how he died.

    • (Darok hands Martok a bottle of bloodwine) Martok: On the bridge? Darok: If they succeed, you can drink to their courage, and if they fail... you can still drink to their courage.

    • Darok: Men of our generation never stood on ceremony. We ate when we were hungry, we fought when we were angered - I miss the simplicity of those days. Kor: I miss a great deal about those days. Darok: The warriors on this ship... they don't know what they missed. But such is the way of children. They often let the promise of the future obscure the glories of the past. Kor: Is there a point to this nostalgic indulgence? Darok: Only that they are children. Even Martok - who, for all his flaws, is a great warrior - even Martok is but a child compared to you or me. They are quick to judge and slow to forgive. They still have much to learn.

    • Ezri: You'd make a pretty good counselor. Want to trade jobs? Kira: Oh, people would love bringing their problems to me. "You dreamed about what? You're crazy! Now, get out of my office! Next patient!"

    Notes (4)

    • Kor is revealed to have been a member of the Klingon Royal family, who passed over Martok's being recommended for officer's school when he was younger for not being of royal blood. Martok later rose through the ranks after a battlefield commission for his actions against a Romulan boarding party on the ship he was serving, and he had held a grudge against Kor ever since.

    • Kor comments on the bloodwine given to him by Worf, "2309 - an excellent year." This is probably from the 16 cases Nog acquired in "Treachery, Faith, And The Great River", in which he swapped 16 cases of another vintage that Martok received from his wife to try getting a stabilizer for the Defiant's gravity net, and had to replace, ultimately pleasing Martok because 2309 was a better vintage than the one he traded away.

    • The Dominion now has a long-range tachyon scanning device that can detect cloaked ships.

    • Final apperance of Kor and the final television appearance of John Colicos, before his death on March 6, 2000.

    Allusions (2)

    • The Time Trap
Kor refers to having served aboard a D-5 cruiser back when the Klingons and the Federation were at odds. This appears to be a reference to the Animated Series episode "The Time Trap", the one and only time when we have seen Kor in such a situation.

    • Once More Unto The Breach The title of this episode was taken from Shakespeare's King Henry V: "Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead! In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility; But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger: Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood."
