  • Like the title says, it's the Other Guys' turn to save the world. This is one of the most entertaining SG-1 episodes you'll ever watch.

    • Jack: All right, look, professor. This little stunt of yours does not excuse the fact you disobeyed a direct order from me...twice! Do it again, I'll shoot ya! Are we... Felger: Crystal! Jack: (pauses) Good.

    • Carter: This is not good. Felger: (over comm) SG-1, this is Felger! Do you copy? Colonel O'Neill? Jack: No, this is not good!

    • Meyers: SG-1... they took... SG-1! Hammond: Slow down, son, take it easy. Where's the rest of your team? Meyers: Ship! Lots of Jaffa! SG-1 captured. Flew away, sir! Hammond: Where are professors Felger and Coombs? Meyers: They used the rings at the ruins to go up to the ship... to rescue SG-1. Hammond: They did what?!

    • Felger: What about "never leave a man behind"? Jack: What about, we allowed ourselves to be captured... on purpose?! Felger: I... uh... what? Jack: We're on a mission, you nit!

    • Sam: Did he say "we"? Felger: Oh, I've got Coombs with me. Jack: Why, look everybody! He's got Coombs with him?

    Notes (6)

    • John Billingsley (Dr. Simon Coombs) who played Dr. Phlox on Enterprise is the sixth "Star Trek" regular/recurring role to appear on the show as of this episode. He was preceded by Armin Shimerman (Anteaus) in "The Nox", who played Quark on Deep Space Nine, Dwight Shultz (The Keeper) in "The Gamekeeper", who played Lieutenant Barclay on The Next Generation, Rene Auberjonois (Alar) in "The Other Side", who played Odo on Deep Space Nine, Marina Sirtis (Dr. Svetlana Markov) in "Watergate", who played Counselor Deanna Troi on The Next Generation, and John de Lancie (Frank Simmons) in "Ascension", who played Q on The Next Generation.

    • During the episode Simon Coombs mentions he has two cats. The actor that plays him (John Billingsley) also has two cats.

    • Adam Harrington (Khonsu) previously played Goa'uld #2 in "Children of the Gods (2)".

    • John Billingsley, who guest stars in this episode as Dr. Simon Coombs, also plays Dr. Phlox on Star Trek: Enterprise. He is the fourth "Star Trek" regular to appear on the show.

    • Director's cameo: Martin Wood is in the dream sequence at the end, helping Siler videotape the ceremony.

    Trivia (3)

    • When Her'ak addresses SG-1 for the first time in the holding cell he looks to the wrong side of the room for each character of SG-1 he addresses. So when he looks at or addresses Sam and Jonas he looks to his left even though they should be on his right, and when he looks at or addresses O'Neill and Teal'c he looks to his right even though they should be on his left.

    • When SG-1 is captured near the stargate, a railroad track can be seen in the background of a few shots.

    • By Coombs acknowledging that Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek shows exist, it creates a mountain of continuity errors with all the ST cast who have guest starred on the show (although technically it may not create one for the actor himself since he appears in "Enterprise" in make-up). Otherwise, everyone would wonder why so many of the people they meet look just like people on Star Trek.

    Allusions (8)

    • Felger: Mmmmmmmmh! Felger and Coombs make this sound when frustrated. This sound is one of the many catchphrases that Curly from The Three Stooges is known to making, specifically when frustrated.

    • Jack: So when do we get to meet this old "Ginsu" guy? Jack mistakenly refers to Lord Khonsu as Ginsu. Ginsu is a line of kitchen knives made famous by their American infomercial marketing campaign (1978). The Ginsu knife commercials established many stylistic precedents for direct marketing on television, such as clever catchphrases (But, wait! There's more!) and dramatic product demonstrations.

    • Coombs: We might as well be wearing red shirts.
Coombs says this to Felger in an attempt to indicate the hopelessness of the situation (and that they'll die). The red-shirt reference is from Star Trek (mainly the original series). It is well known that in Star Trek, whenever an away team goes somewhere and there are some main characters in the group, there is always an extra couple of temporary characters who always wear red shirts. These are the expendables who always end up dying in that episode.

    • Felger: If this was a Trek convention you’d be all dressed up like a Klingon.
John Billingsley who plays Coombs actually plays the Denobulan Dr. Phlox on Enterprise, so it would have fit if Felger had said Coombs would be dressed as a Denobulan. However, Denobulans are a new alien race introduced with Enterprise, so it would have been too specific to say that.

    • Teal'c: I believe the Canucks of Vancouver are superior warriors
Teal'c response to Jack's question about who he likes in the cup "You know, Lord Stanley's cup?" Reference to Vancouver, BC's NHL hockey team. The show is filmed in Vancouver and the Canucks are actor Michael Shanks' favorite hockey team.
