  • Quotes (11)

    • Daniel: You’re just gonna have to get used to the fact that this is probably gonna take a while. Vala: The way you approach things it could take the rest of our lives. Daniel: I’m sorry, but we’re not going to find the location of this thing by looking under ‘w’ for weapon. Vala: ‘P’ for planet, then? I’m just saying, ask the question. Daniel: Dr. Weir already tried it, it would be a complete waste of time. Vala: It would take all of 11 seconds!

    • McKay: What stories? What have you heard? Mitchell: Well for starters, that you didn't know the meaning of the word "impossible." And under threat of impending death that you can work absolute miracles. McKay: I assume Sheppard told you that. Mitchell: Yes he did. McKay: Yes, well it's all true but I'm not under the threat of impending death and I don't... (Mitchell pulls out a lemon) Mitchell: Not yet. Keep it up.

    • Mitchell: Is that thing cool or what? McKay: Hmm... Mitchell: The black hole. McKay: What you're looking at is called the accretion disk. It's matter trapped in the gravity well. You can't actually see the black hole itself. Mitchell: ...which is cool.

    • McKay: It'd be like putting together a St. Bernard and a Chihuahua. Vala: And the problem with that would be…? McKay: Well obviously it's a question of…oh, I see. You're mocking me, aren't you? Vala: What? Oh, umm, no, I'm not from Earth. I honestly didn't get the reference. McKay: Oh, oh well, they're both dogs… Sam: McKay! Weir: Colonel Carter, please, continue. Sheppard: If he speaks again, I'll shoot him. Sam: (mouths) Thank you.

    • McKay: I am just saying the yield calculations can be extremely tricky if not borderline impossible. You may need me. Vala: (chuckles) Colonel Carter said as much. Sam: Ooh. We weren't going to tell him that. McKay smirks) Weir: John, do you think you could spare Rodney from your team? Sheppard: Hell, you can keep him. Mitchell: Nice.

    Notes (3)

    • Syndication Premiere: October 6, 2007

    • This episode first aired in Canada on Thursday, November 16th, 2006.

    • McKay's references to a concussion is a reference to the events of the Stargate: Atlantis episode "Grace Under Pressure."

    Trivia (11)

    • Morgan tells Daniel, Vala, and Elizabeth that the first human to step foot on Atlantis after the evacuation was Doctor Elizabeth Weir. Elizabeth wasn't the first person to step foot on Atlantis after the evacuation (although she appeared on Atlantis before the evacuation). Colonel Marshall Sumner was the first one to step through the wormhole to Atlantis in "Rising," then three security forces enlisted personnel, and then Elizabeth.

    • When John (Joe Flanigan) and Cam (Ben Browder) are talking and John comments that they "just painted" John's comment is, in fact, true to life. Over the hiatus the Atlantis set was redone and painted a different color than it had been in season 1

    • Dr. Weir at one point uses the word "pronunciation", but pronounces it "proNOUNciation."

    • Morgan le Fay told Daniel that some of the Ancients "made their way to the stargate" after returning to Earth from Atlantis. However, since the Ancients returned to Earth through the stargate, they would have had no need to travel anywhere on Earth to then use that stargate to travel to other worlds in the Milky Way; they were already at the stargate.

    • Zelenka first appears in this episode while Daniel, Vala, and Dr. Weir are walking to the hologram room. Vala steals a device from him and he runs after her and grabs it back angrily in the background of what Daniel and Dr. Weir are saying.

    Allusions (2)

    • Vala: I thought we imposed a moratorium on cultural references I wouldn't understand. On Farscape, John Crichton (Ben Browder) would constantly use pop culture references from Earth that only made sense to him. Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) was one of the people who never understood what he was saying.

    • Mitchell: So we slingshot, use the gravity well to accelerate back out. The "slingshot" maneuver Col. Mitchell suggests to escape the black hole's gravity is very similar to the maneuver that launched John Crichton, Ben Browder's Farscape character, into a wormhole in the pilot episode of that series.
