  • Quotes (11)

    • Jack: Water. Give it enough time and it'll bring down walls, even walls just like them. So in a couple of hundred years, we'll be free.

    • Jack: (to Teal'c) You're part of this family now. We're not leaving you behind.

    • Jack: (seeing the holographic Thor) Teal'c, I think we just got the answering machine.

    • Kendra: Call the rune flow, read the might, see the rainbow, test the wight!

    • Teal'c: Are you considering the same tactic as I? Jack: Teal'c, the cliché is, "are you thinking what I'm thinking?". And the answer is yes.

    Notes (3)

    • This is episode 9 in the DVD chronological order of release.

    • Syndication air date: November 2, 1998.

    • James Earl Jones, who is the voice of Unas in this episode, is better known as the voice of Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy. Ironically, here as in Star Wars, Jones provides the voice while a heftier actor provides the body (here, Vincent Hammond).

    Trivia (2)

    • Trivia: This episode marks the first reference to the System Lords, the Asgard, Thor and Daniel's belief that the Goa'uld did not create the Stargate.

    • Jackson and the MALP are on the ramp to the Stargate as "chevron two encoded" comes over the speaker. Dr. Jackson may make it off the ramp before the last chevron is encoded, but the MALP has no chance of making it off the ramp before the outgoing wormhole would engage and destroy it, and yet it didn't.

    Allusions (4)

    • Gairwyn: You're a little short for gods. This line is in reference to Star Wars: A New Hope in which Princess Leia said to Luke Skywalker, "Aren't you a little short for a storm trooper?"

    • Daniel: We asked the Sagan Institute to imagine a sort of greeting from Earth... The Sagan Institute, probably based on the SETI Institute, is an homage to Carl Sagan, the famous American astronomer, astrobiologist, and highly successful science popularizer.

    • Unas:
Unas was the last king of the 5th Dynasty, and what some believe to be the end of the golden age of the Old Kingdom. The 6th Dynasty would finally be the end of Egypt's grand beginning, as the country would then slip into the troubling First intermediate Period. Unas had a long rule, but is not well attested and we really know very little about this king despite his fairly well preserved funerary complex at the southwest corner of the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara. Unas was his Birth Name, but he is also referred to as Unis, Ounas and Wenis. His Horus name was Wadj-tawy which means "Horus, the flourishing one of the Two Lands". He probably ruled Egypt between 2375 and 2345 BC and may have been married to two queens named Khenut and Nebit. They were buried in mastaba tombs near Unas' pyramid complex.

    • Thor:
Thor, a member of the Asgard race, is thought to be a god to the people of Cimmeria. Thor was known as a god in ancient times, and his hammer was known to have lightning-like effects which instilled fear into his enemies.
