  • A good, entertaining story and some great humour. Exactly what I've come to love about this show.

    • Dr. Markov: We're going to have to jump. Daniel: (incredulously) Out of the plane?

    • Jack: (about jumping out of the plane) It's easy! Just jump and pull this. T'ealc: This does not seem wise, O'Neill. Jack: I said it was easy, not wise.

    • Markov: I'm going with or without you, Colonel. Jack: I suppose you expect my male bravado to kick in right about now? Markov: I've read your file. Jack: No mention of bravado, eh?

    • Markov: (about Jack) Is he always like this? Carter: Actually, this is quite charming.

    • Daniel: Could we stop agreeing on how we are going to die and start doing something about it?

    Notes (3)

    • Marina Sirtis (Dr. Svetlana Markov) who played Counselor Deanna Troi on The Next Generation is the fourth "Star Trek" regular/recurring role to appear on the show as of this episode. She was preceded by Armin Shimerman (Anteaus) in "The Nox", who played Quark on Deep Space Nine, Dwight Shultz (The Keeper) in "The Gamekeeper", who played Lieutenant Barclay on The Next Generation, and Rene Auberjonois (Alar) in "The Other Side", who played Odo on Deep Space Nine.

    • Kurt Russell, who played Colonel Jonathan "Jack" O'Neil in Stargate, visited the set during the filming of this episode. He was filming 3000 Miles to Graceland nearby.

    • Syndication airdate: October 29, 2001.

    Trivia (5)

    • Trivia: Concerning Jack's statement about never being on a submarine, Jack was on the Russian submarine Foxtrot in the season opener "Small Victories", but is maintaining the US fiction that they have no idea what happened to that sub.

    • Trivia: Russian Stargate room pass code: 6996

    • When the submersible goes through the gate, the cable suspending it detaches from an anchor on the top of the sub, but when they emerge from the other side of the gate, the anchor is gone.

    • At about 15:47 into the episode when SG1 and Marina Sirtis are at the Russian facility, you can see that she has some sort of mouthpiece. In the next shot it is gone.

    • In most cases, Russian surnames are gender specific. Markov would refer to a male member of her family, whereas her name should be Mark√≥va.

    Allusions (3)

    • Jack: Holy frozen badguy!
This is most likely a take on the old Batman show from the 60s in which Robin would say "Holy (something here)" in every episode.

    • Solaris:
The idea of the Soviets/Russians encountering an sentient ocean on another world is similiar to the Andrei Tarkovsky version of Solaris.

    • Title The title of this episode is clearly a reference to the Watergate scandal during the Nixon administration.
