  • After the secret of the Stargate's ninth chevron is discovered, a team of explorers from Earth travels to the unmanned starship Destiny, which was launched by the Ancients hundreds of millenia ago as an experiment. The new crew, not able to control the Destiny's navigation, is forced to complete its original mission. They travel far out into the universe, encountering new races and enemies. Stargate Universe is produced and distributed by MGM Television and Sci-Fi Channel. It is filmed at Bridge Studios and on location in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.moreless

    • Scott: What are we looking at? Rush: It's a star map. Park: That's the Milky Way. Rush: I believe it's a visual log of the ship's journey. Eli: So this is where we are now? Rush: No. That's where the ship originally embarked from. Brody: Earth. Park: It's leaving the galaxy. Rush: It did –- long ago. Brody: That was Pegasus. Scott: So those points are more stars? Eli: No –- they're galaxies. Scott: Rush. Where the hell are we? Rush: Several billion light years from home.

    • (Eli sees the Stargate for the first time.) Eli: Unbelievable! Scott: Yeah, it is. It's weird how fast you can start to take something like this for granted. Eli: So if the Stargate can instantly transport you to another planet, why did we fly here on a spaceship? Scott: It's something to do with how this one's tied into the planet for power. Apparently it's been modified to only dial out because incoming wormholes are too dangerous. You're the genius –- you could probably tell me better. Eli: All I did was solve a puzzle in a video game. Scott: Well, you figured out something Dr. Rush has been trying to figure out for months ... which, by the way, a lot of people were glad to see.

    • Rush: Welcome aboard the Hammond, Eli. Yes, that is planet Earth and yes, you are on a spaceship. We need your help, Eli. To be honest, I don't know how long it's gonna take. Eli: I should call my mom ... uh, tell her where I am. (Takes his cellphone out of his pocket.) Rush: That's probably not gonna work up here. Eli: Right, right! Rush: You can speak to her on the way. There's a cover story you'll have to follow. Eli: I'm sorry, um, on the way to ...? Rush: To another planet, twenty-one light years from here. Eli: I can't go. I ... I have things that ... Rush: We know about your mother's condition. Eli: You just know everything, don't you? Rush: We also know that you are currently unemployed and that your mother's medical coverage is, um, an ongoing issue. We'll see she gets the best available care while you're gone. Eli: And if I don't sign, what? You're gonna erase my memory? Rush: Something like that. (Eli realizes that he's wearing pajama bottoms.) Eli: Can I get some pants?

    • Eli: The core of the planet is the power source. You have to channel it into the weapon and destroy the enemy ship. Eli's Friend: You can't do it, dude! Eli: I'm doing it! Eli's Friend: It's one of those programmer's jokes –- a problem that can't be solved. Eli: I already solved this. Eli's Friend: No you didn't! Eli: Just shut up and watch this! (The screen goes white for a moment before re-setting.) Eli: What the hell?! Eli's Friend: What happened? Eli: Noth... Nothing happened. I'm back at the beginning of the level. Eli's Friend: You're so full of yourself. Eli: No. No-no-no. It worked. The firing code locked in. Eli's Friend: Whatever. Eli: That was extremely unsatisfying.

    • Eli: Actually, uh, Eli's not right here right now... okay, okay, whatever you think that I did, I swear, you've got the wrong guy. O'Neill: Do I look like someone who would be standing here if I didn't already know everything there is to know about you? Eli: Yeah, not really. O'Neill: Right.

    • Rush: I assure you, it'll be worth your while if you sign it. Eli: What if I don't? O'Neill: We'll beam you up to our spaceship. Eli: Right. I think I want my lawyer to look it over first... O'Neill: And by "lawyer," I assume you mean "mother."

    • Eli: Eli Wallace. Chloe: I know. Eli: You've heard of me? Chloe: I have. Eli: Wow, that almost never happens. And you are? Chloe: I work for Alan Armstrong. Senator of California. Eli: Oh, yeah, yeah. I have heard of California. My last job was in the burgers and fries field.

    • Chloe: Well, if anyone's going to solve it, I think Eli will. Eli: Yes, that's right. It's true... I'm Math Boy.

    Trivia (36)

    • Webisode Timeline: Webisode 1 takes place sometime after the episode "Water." Webisodes 2-12 most likely take place sometime after "Light." Webisode 13 takes place after "Water" and possibly during "Earth" as the explosion heard at the end could be the one that injured Riley. Webisodes 14-16 take place during the episode "Earth." Webisode 17 takes place after the episode "Earth." Webisode 18 takes place after the episode "Time." Webisode 19 takes place around the episode "Life." Webisode 20 takes place during the episode "Life" and could have led to their intimate moment at the end of that episode. Webisode 21 takes place after the episode "Time." Webisode 22 takes place after the episode "Justice."

    • Since his last appearance in Stargate Continuum, Jack O'Neill has received a promotion to Lieutenant General (3 stars).

    • When making the successful dialing of the nine-chevron address, Dr. Rush uses the point of origin symbol of the Giza Stargate. However, when the ship was launched, the Antarctic gate was the gate in use for Earth. Since the DHDs of Stargates have to dial each other in order to update, the ship would likely have only accepted the point of origin for the Antarctic Stargate since not only was it too far out to be updated, but also because the address to dial it was a combination and not actual co-ordinates.

    • Rush: The design is clearly Ancient, in the truest sense of the word –- launched hundreds of thousands of years ago. The Destiny was launched before Atlantis left Earth for the Pegasus Galaxy so the ship left over 5 million years ago not hundreds of thousands.

    • The planet Icarus Base was built on was chosen because of its highly radioactive Naquadria core. Naquadria is a heavier, less stable variant of naquadah, and it does not occur naturally. It was first discovered on the planet Kelowna, the home world of former SG-1 member Jonas Quinn, in the Stargate SG-1 episode "Meridian."

    • The Icarus Base Stargate has the Earth point of origin on it. This symbol belongs on the Alpha Gate (found in Egypt in 1928) only. This is because the Icarus Gate is the same prop as the SGC Gate.

    • Unlike all other Ancient vessels encountered, the Destiny does not use hyperspace to travel faster then light. It also does not require the Ancient Technology Activation (ATA) Gene to operate its systems like Atlantis and Aurora-class vessels do.

    • The George Hammond (named after the deceased former commander of the SGC) is the sixth Daedalus-class ship to enter service. The other five Deep Space Cruisers are the Daedalus, first seen in the Season 2 Stargate Atlantis episode "Siege (3);" the Odyssey, first seen in the Season 9 Stargate SG-1 episode "Off the Grid;" the Korolev, first seen in the Season 9 SG-1 episode "Camelot;" the Apollo, first seen in the Season 3 Atlantis episode "First Strike (1);" and the Sun Tzu, first seen in the Season 5 Atlantis episode "Enemy at the Gate." This is the ship formally named the Phoenix in the alternate timeline in the Season 4 Atlantis episode "The Last Man."

    • Scott: It's a go for a pee in the suit. (Riley and Volker stare blankly) Alan Shepard, peed in the suit. The Right Stuff. The Right Stuff was a 1983 film about the astronauts of Project Mercury. Alan Shepard was the pilot of the Freedom 7 mission and became the second person, and the first American, to travel into space. He is famous for his quote "Dear Lord, please don't let me **** up" known by aviators as Shepard's Prayer.

    • Icarus Base: In Greek mythology, Icarus was the son of the artisan and builder Daedalus, who built the Minotaur's Labyrinth and a number of intricate devices for King Minos of Crete. Daedalus fell out of favor with the king, and he and Icarus were imprisoned in a tower. To escape, Daedalus made two pairs of wings out of feathers and wax with which he planned to fly to freedom. Daedalus warned his son not to fly too low or the sea spray would wet the feathers, nor too high, or the sun would melt the wax. However, caught up in the ecstasy of flight, Icarus climbed too high, and, as warned, the wings melted and he fell into the sea and drowned. The story of Icarus has become a cautionary tale against hubris and overreaching one's limits.

    • Eli: It's a flying camera. I'm calling it a Kino - you know, after the Russian... Kino was one of the most famous Soviet rock groups of the 1980s. In German, Kino means "Movie Theater". In Russian, it means both "cinema" and "movie".

    • Greer: He'll live After Greer shoots Franklin he says "He'll live." In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, when the Terminator has promised not to kill anybody, he shoots the hospital guard in the legs and says "He'll live."

    • Rush: I helped choose the personnel for Icarus Base. I read your file, and neither you nor Captain Marvel back there were on my list, I can tell you. Captain Marvel is a comic book superhero originally published by Fawcett Comics and later by DC Comics. He is also known as Shazam! and had a 1974 TV series under that name.

    • Eli: I know, it was a mirage, but when we were walking over that last dune, I thought I saw the Statue of Liberty sticking half out of the sand, just for a second there! I was all ready to yell, "Damn you! Damn you all to hell!" This is an allusion to the 1968 film Planet of the Apes and Charlton Heston's famous line.

    • Eli: And just for for posterity's sake, I'd like to say "Take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape." This is an allusion to the 1968 film Planet of the Apes and one of Charlton Heston's famous lines.

    • Eli: It looks like we entered the Hoth system. (everyone looks blank) Empire Strikes Back? Second Star Wars movie? Okay, I refuse to call it Episode 5. Hoth was a desolate ice planet that the Rebel Alliance established a base on in order to remain hidden from the Empire. The Battle of Hoth is considered one of the Star Wars series' most memorable sequences.
