  • Quotes (8)

    • Scott: What are we looking at? Rush: It's a star map. Park: That's the Milky Way. Rush: I believe it's a visual log of the ship's journey. Eli: So this is where we are now? Rush: No. That's where the ship originally embarked from. Brody: Earth. Park: It's leaving the galaxy. Rush: It did –- long ago. Brody: That was Pegasus. Scott: So those points are more stars? Eli: No –- they're galaxies. Scott: Rush. Where the hell are we? Rush: Several billion light years from home.

    • (Eli sees the Stargate for the first time.) Eli: Unbelievable! Scott: Yeah, it is. It's weird how fast you can start to take something like this for granted. Eli: So if the Stargate can instantly transport you to another planet, why did we fly here on a spaceship? Scott: It's something to do with how this one's tied into the planet for power. Apparently it's been modified to only dial out because incoming wormholes are too dangerous. You're the genius –- you could probably tell me better. Eli: All I did was solve a puzzle in a video game. Scott: Well, you figured out something Dr. Rush has been trying to figure out for months ... which, by the way, a lot of people were glad to see.

    • Rush: Welcome aboard the Hammond, Eli. Yes, that is planet Earth and yes, you are on a spaceship. We need your help, Eli. To be honest, I don't know how long it's gonna take. Eli: I should call my mom ... uh, tell her where I am. (Takes his cellphone out of his pocket.) Rush: That's probably not gonna work up here. Eli: Right, right! Rush: You can speak to her on the way. There's a cover story you'll have to follow. Eli: I'm sorry, um, on the way to ...? Rush: To another planet, twenty-one light years from here. Eli: I can't go. I ... I have things that ... Rush: We know about your mother's condition. Eli: You just know everything, don't you? Rush: We also know that you are currently unemployed and that your mother's medical coverage is, um, an ongoing issue. We'll see she gets the best available care while you're gone. Eli: And if I don't sign, what? You're gonna erase my memory? Rush: Something like that. (Eli realizes that he's wearing pajama bottoms.) Eli: Can I get some pants?

    • Eli: The core of the planet is the power source. You have to channel it into the weapon and destroy the enemy ship. Eli's Friend: You can't do it, dude! Eli: I'm doing it! Eli's Friend: It's one of those programmer's jokes –- a problem that can't be solved. Eli: I already solved this. Eli's Friend: No you didn't! Eli: Just shut up and watch this! (The screen goes white for a moment before re-setting.) Eli: What the hell?! Eli's Friend: What happened? Eli: Noth... Nothing happened. I'm back at the beginning of the level. Eli's Friend: You're so full of yourself. Eli: No. No-no-no. It worked. The firing code locked in. Eli's Friend: Whatever. Eli: That was extremely unsatisfying.

    • Eli: Actually, uh, Eli's not right here right now... okay, okay, whatever you think that I did, I swear, you've got the wrong guy. O'Neill: Do I look like someone who would be standing here if I didn't already know everything there is to know about you? Eli: Yeah, not really. O'Neill: Right.

    Trivia (7)

    • Since his last appearance in Stargate Continuum, Jack O'Neill has received a promotion to Lieutenant General (3 stars).

    • When making the successful dialing of the nine-chevron address, Dr. Rush uses the point of origin symbol of the Giza Stargate. However, when the ship was launched, the Antarctic gate was the gate in use for Earth. Since the DHDs of Stargates have to dial each other in order to update, the ship would likely have only accepted the point of origin for the Antarctic Stargate since not only was it too far out to be updated, but also because the address to dial it was a combination and not actual co-ordinates.

    • Rush: The design is clearly Ancient, in the truest sense of the word –- launched hundreds of thousands of years ago. The Destiny was launched before Atlantis left Earth for the Pegasus Galaxy so the ship left over 5 million years ago not hundreds of thousands.

    • The planet Icarus Base was built on was chosen because of its highly radioactive Naquadria core. Naquadria is a heavier, less stable variant of naquadah, and it does not occur naturally. It was first discovered on the planet Kelowna, the home world of former SG-1 member Jonas Quinn, in the Stargate SG-1 episode "Meridian."

    • The Icarus Base Stargate has the Earth point of origin on it. This symbol belongs on the Alpha Gate (found in Egypt in 1928) only. This is because the Icarus Gate is the same prop as the SGC Gate.

    Allusions (1)

    • Icarus Base: In Greek mythology, Icarus was the son of the artisan and builder Daedalus, who built the Minotaur's Labyrinth and a number of intricate devices for King Minos of Crete. Daedalus fell out of favor with the king, and he and Icarus were imprisoned in a tower. To escape, Daedalus made two pairs of wings out of feathers and wax with which he planned to fly to freedom. Daedalus warned his son not to fly too low or the sea spray would wet the feathers, nor too high, or the sun would melt the wax. However, caught up in the ecstasy of flight, Icarus climbed too high, and, as warned, the wings melted and he fell into the sea and drowned. The story of Icarus has become a cautionary tale against hubris and overreaching one's limits.
