  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (11)

    • TV Reporter: The forecast calls for destruction tonight, death tomorrow and Armageddon by the weekend. This could be the end of life as we know it. Linoge: Seems unlikely, but we can always hope.

    • Ralphie: (looking at handcuffs) Why are you wearing those? Linoge: Because I choose to.

    • Linoge: Give me what I want and I'll go away.

    • Michael: The first person on Little Tall to see Andre Linoge was Martha Clarendon. He was also the last person she ever saw.

    • Michael: My name is Michael Anderson, and I'm not what you'd call a Rhodes scholar. I don't have much in the way of philosophy, either, but I know one thing: in this world, you have to pay as you go. Sometimes all you have. That's a lesson I thought I learned nine years ago, during what folks in these parts call the Storm of the Century. But I was wrong. I only started learning during the Big Blow. I finished just last week.

    • Linoge: I'm here because island folk know how to pull together for the common good when they need to. And island folk know how to keep a secret. That was true on Roanoke Island in 1587 and it's true on Little Tall in 1989.

    • Michael: This is a cash and carry world. Pay as you go. Sometimes you only have to pay a little. Mostly, it's a lot. Once in a while, it's all you have. That's a lesson I thought I learned nine years ago on Little Tall during the Storm of the Century. But I was wrong. I only started learning during the big blow. I finished just last week.

    • Riggins: "Render, therefore, unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's." Book of Matthew. You said that to me, yourself, Michael, not an hour ago! Michael: "Get thee behind me, Satan, for thou savorest not the things that be of God"! Book of Mark!

    Allusions (1)

    • Michael: I'm not what you'd call a Rhodes scholar. A Rhodes scholarship is awarded annually for study at Oxford University by students from certain Commonwealth countries, South Africa, the U.S., and Germany.
