    • Laura: Do you want all the gory details? Nick: I'll use my imagination. Laura: Oh, God. I wish I could turn mine off. I'm sick of this place. Help me get out of here, Nick.

    • Nick: You don't even know me. What if I'm a really bad man? Laura: Oh, I'm sure you are. The thing is, it turns me on.

    • Laura: You know, Nick, you and I could really help each other. Nick: What makes you think I need help? Laura: Oh i don't know. Maybe it's the hole in your shoulder, or the cops crawling all over your car before they towed it away. Or maybe it's the way you never take your eyes off that briefcase.

    • Laura: What you need is a drink. I hope you like red. I found this great little Burgundy. It's a little rough around the edges, but then again, aren't we all?

    • Laura: From where I'm at, everything seems a little funny. Nick: I'll bet. Well, I'll tell you what, sweetheart, if I wasn't feeling so under the weather, I'd be happy to amuse you all night. Laura: You that good? Nick: Darling, I could amuse you to death. Laura: That'd be a neat trick.

    Allusions (7)

    • Desert Storm Operation Desert Storm, or the First Gulf War, was a war fought between 1990 and 1991 between Iraq and a coalition of 35 nations authorized by the UN. The United States was the main member of this coalition. The purpose of the war was to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi rule after Saddam Hussein invaded. When Nick wakes up in the hotel room shortly after the sex hallucination, a news show on his tv can be heard. On it, the anchor says "The US Congress said today that the bombing of Baghdad will continue until all Iraqi forces have pulled back across the Kuwaiti border."

    • NASA NASA, or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is the group responsible for the inner workings of the American space program. Through them, such events as shuttle launches, space station visits, satellite launches, and research into new technologies occur. During the closing wraparound, the Cryptkeeper rewords the famous space center by calling the skeleton's spectacular demise a "NASA-cre".

    • Star Trek Popular sci-fi tv series created by Gene Roddenberry featuring a group of future explorers who traverse the galaxy in their ship, the USS Enterprise, and the various encounters and adventures they have. The series starred William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley. It has spawned numerous spinoffs and movies since its original introduction in 1966. The opening theme is well-known for the last line in the voiceover in which Capt. James T. Kirk says that the Enterprise's mission is "To boldly go where no man has gone before." During the opening wraparound segment, the Cryptkeeper rewords the famous line, "To boldly go where no man has gone before" as "To Boldly going where no ghoul has gaunt before."

    • Animal Nitrate The name of the third song off the English band Suede's self-titled debut. It was the most popular song off the album on the British music charts, reaching no. 7. When Nick is found in the grafitti-covered room at the end of the episode, the words Animal Nitrate can be seen. This is probably a reference to this song and an in-joke to the fact that the show had moved to England in this season.

    • Purple Man: Purple Man, or Zebediah Killgrave, is a supervillain from the Daredevil comic book published by Marvel Comics. He was a former Russian spy who was doused with a chemical that turned his skin and hair purple and gave him the ability to control people's minds. At the end of the episode, when Nick is found in the grafitti covered room, the words "Purple Man" can be seen written on the wall. This could be a reference to the episode's general plot involving tricks of the mind and hallucinations.
