  • Milton Berle's guests include: Ethel Merman, actor Keye Luke, acrobat act Los Gattos, tap dancer Teddy Hale, and composers Joan Whitney and Alex Kramer, Charles Tobias, Maud Nugent and Lou Brown. Berle makes his entrance dressed as a Roman riding in a chariot. Luke and Berle play the stars of China's version of Texaco Star Theater. Merman sings "Who Could Ask For Anything More" and "I Get a Kick Out of You." Berle joins her for "The Varsity Drag" and "Friendship." The finale, Songwriters on Parade, features composers Charles Tobias, Maud Nugent, Joan Whitney and Alex Kramer and Lou Brown performing their hits.moreless

    • Ethel Merman told Time magazine in 1949 she wasn't convinced about TV: "I did two shows with Milton Berle. On both of them he had horses in the act — and everything that goes with horses. We were so cramped backstage that I had only a screen for costume changes and an electrician practically held a light over me while I changed...There must be an easier way to make a living."
